LEA69 - Need Advice on Rear M-Soort Bumper- URGENT!
Hi guys, the inevitable has happened this morning, my 8month old car got rear ended on the Eastern Frwy by another 5 series.... Silly woman was NOT paying attention to the traffic, but was looking at a previous accident pulled over in the service lane. My car was up front, with a Lance in the middle and we were both stationary and this bimmer merged into our lane and was looking at the service lane accident and didnt brake! Slammed into the lancer and lancer into me. Lance was crushed both front and rear bad... its like a foot dented inwards.... both bimmers suffered minor damage but bumpers will need replacing. I must say, Bimmers are built to last... far out!
ANyhow, my car will be going into repair next week. I have a LeMans blue M-Sports rear bumper....am thinking now is a good time to go for something after market perhaps like an AC Shnitzer bar or something.... but I will need it soonish as I only have free car hire thru RACV for 2 weeks.... Question 1: Is there anywhere local that sells quality rear bars for the current E90 2 series? Question 2: Overseas... can deliver quickish to my panel beater? Question 3: Should I go for after-market or stick with current M-Sports bar. I will not be changing the front bar.... Just that I will need to sort this out today or tmrw to get the ball rolling on the repair work. Any advice will be appreciated!

Sorry to hear about your accident,
I would stick with the original bumper bar, because: - you need to have the original bar back. After replacement if there were rattle or whatever imperfections on the work you are backed up by BMW. - It may affect your resale value. If you sell your car with after-market rear bumper and if you dont have the original bumper, the potential buyer would know that you had an accident. - Not sure if your/their insurance will be happy to pay for it. Where to get after market kit? here: http://www.carshine.com.au/ in tullamarine, melbourne.

Sorry to hear that Lea... hope it wasnt my gf again but she drives a 3 not a 5!
Would definately go for exact replacement for the reasons given by ed -320d. I had to take my car in Tuesday. Went to BMW bodyworks at Port Melbourne. Also have RACV insurance.... bad week for them! Strange thing is I heard from RACV claim approved but nothing from bodyworks. Rang yesterday and Bodyworks said they had not heard anything. Will follow up. Who are you taking yours to? |

I am taking my 'borris' to GlenDaren AUto in Clayton. RACV has processed my claim, just have to drop the car off. Might just stick with a M bumper with a carbon fibre insert/ diffuser bottom half.

port melb is a bit far. Esp when I have to get a lift etc
I have car hire thru RACV so have a car free for 2 weeks. Got a hertz near the panel shop. Theyve worked on our cars for years, done a lot to my partner's show car so we like their handy work.

Just go for the original M rear bumper.
It looks the best.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I agree with the masses - leave it origional
Hope all goes smoothly and you get it back quickly. Look at the positive side - driving a rental will make you appreciate your car even more when you get it back. |
