Smile I updated my own iDrive (w/o going to the dealer)

Well, it's not my car, but it´s mine for a week or so, a 335i Coupé.

It didn´t have the Concierge button in iDrive so I "updated services" and the menus changed and updated. Now it has the Concierge button (so I can ask the BMW Assist people to download address info directly into the iDrive)

What do you mean by "updated services"?

It´s a menu option. Go to the iMenu (5th in the middle) and select BMW Services, then "Service Status", scroll down to "Options" and activate "Update Services"

I hope there is no extra charge for that - like for 'extra' BMW assist services right? I will check it out...

For the "update services" - no, there is no charge. It´s a normal function. I´ve done it before but never did it to get a new feature.

You didnt update your I drive, all you have done is initialize BMW assist. So now you have BMW Information Service (concierge). BMW Breakdown Call and Emergency service. Normally you have to fill out some paperwork before hand to enable this subsription service, I know in the UK its free for the first year.

No, I did indeed update the iDrive menu. I did not by doing the Update Services initialize assist, since that was already working and the other Assist items were on the menus.

I added a menu item that was not there. Other BMW Assist items were there. In cars produced prior to Sept., the menu item didn´t exist. So the iDrive menu needed updating.

The subscription was already in place - the menu item was missing.

Please don´t confuse the two.
