Pic out my window before returning home

Been in Tokyo the last 10 days working my nads off. Finally took time out last night from working/meetings/brilliant food to take a panoramic photo of the view from my hotel bedroom window as I lay in bed. I'll miss coming home to this late every evening.

I posted a view like this before but once spliced together this image is about 14,000 pixels x 14,000 pixels. Enough to get a good print I think.

Hopefully have enough time after all the wrap-up meetings today to pop off and buy a few little electronic "toys".

Back to Switzerland tomorrow, then home at the beginning of next week to Scotland for the SOSE show. Chance to get the old girl out for a blast.

Wee bit of this ... wee bit of that

This time, I am across as a consultant mainly supporting JAEA (Japanese Atomic Energy Authority) in Tokyo and one of their main scientific consultancies in Yokahama. A lot of programming/web work (working with Japanese OSs is fun) .. little bit of multimedia ... a lot of meetings.

Had a cracking visit earlier on to MRI (Mitsubishi Research Institute) where they showcased their 3D virtual reality project. Right up my street. Very productive meetings there.

Doing a wee bit of marketing for myself too

I love it. Been coming to Japan for the last 15 years. Lots changed. Mostly in the way that the travel systems and many more signs are also in arabic characters - so actually reading where you are going is possible !

It is amazing to stand and look down a street in Ginza at night with huge neon signs everwhere from street level to rooftops going off as far as the eye can see - and not being able to read ONE of them !!! OK, I can understand the golden M maybe

Food is just excellent. Sushi/sashimi is only one of the MANY, MANY styles to choose from, and all presented so well. I love it.

Tokyo is quite literally 24x7. About 30 million live in this city. And more than the population of Switzerland commute every morning on the underground - which is excellent, although it is like squashed sardines at rush hour, even been squashed into the train by the white gloved guards.

Japanese are really polite, friendly, gregarious people. Make the Swiss look frosty.

I notice that when I wrote this it was 10pm in the UK, it is already the morning of tomorrow here

A Canon EOS 400D. It was 35 separate pics using the standard EFS 18-55mm lens, at ISO 100 - about F8 and 15 secs exposure per pic.

Spliced together .. it generates a 14,000 x 14,000 pixel image

Overkill I know, but I think I will print out a nice big detailed one for my wall.

Had a few hours spare today. Could .... not .... resist .... Had to buy a few wee toys.

Popped down to Mr. Odabashi Camera in Shinjuku (no time to go to Akihabara) and bought a IXY 210IS (= IXUS 100 IS in the UK). Cracking wee camera - very good picture quality and 720HD video !

Took the picture of the Canon with my pocket Casio Exilm.

Also succumbed to a new Citizen watch. Nice chunky one, fully solar powered. Took that picture with the new Canon. Default settings and it switched to macro. Excellent quality. Just found an online manual in English ...

Doing my bit to help out the world economy
