Possible Issue

I have a 06 330i with idrive. I have noticed when I pause/mute a CD, leave car, set alarm, come back five minutes the CD plays with the mute still activated. The time elapsed on CD starts counting again. Is it suppose to remain paused until I push the volume/mute button again? I just think it's a bit strange for the CD to start playing again and yet the mute is still activated.

I guess I am the only one with this problem if indeed it is one.

is this happening with burned cds or burned mp3 cds? or is it happening with original cds? i had this issue with burned mp3 cds, but the dealer said since it wasn't an original cd its not covered under warranty. i tested it with a regular cd and it was fine. it only did this when i put in a burned mp3 cd.

i take it you have idrive also?? i had the same situation as to where my car with idrive didnt play mp3 cds until i had my idrive software updated. i still dont understand as to why burned cds or burned mp3s makes a difference when you mute/pause the cd. it could have just been my dealer that didnt want to fix it, but he was right in saying that it was fine with regular cds and not burned ones.

I do have idrive on my 330i. A dealer ran my vin # and found my car did get the mp3 software update. I tried most of the methods on this site as how to make an mp3 cd. Can you tell me what program you used and the cd brand. Did you have to mess with the kbps or mp3 tags of the tracks? Any kind of info would help.

i either use nero on the pc or just itunes on the mac. i dont really mess around with any of the settings. i just leave them as default. once you get the update for mp3 capability, you should be fine with mp3 cds.

I'm still having the CD issue even with original discs. I put in a disc (original), press the volume button putting it on mute/pause and then I leave the car for a bit with alarm on. When I come back the CD starts playing again even when the mute/pause has been activated before. There is no volume because it's on mute but the track is going forward.

Your car may have the Mp3 update, but that doesn't mean it has the latest Mp3 update. I had the same problem until I brought mine in for a problem with the navi, after getting it updated in February last year it fixed my Mp3 problems. Another problem I had was that the indash would sometimes keep playing/advancing the disc for 5-10 minutes after shutting off the engine and locking the doors.

The track advancing while paused is not a big deal but annoying....what really grinds my gears is the MP3 playback problem. I feel so helpless trying to find a dealer willing to check it out. I live near New Century BMW and they told me it has the MP3 update and it should work. It would be nice if I could find someone with a BMW E90 that can play MP3 cd's. Maybe I'm burning them wrong. I tried it many times with many of the methods here and nothing. I don't even get any error message. The CD icon is grayed out. I feel like most dealers don't want to bother if you didn't buy the car from them. I guess my only bet is Southbay BMW where I bought the car but it's a long drive for me. At this point I don't care anymore. I just want it to work like it suppose to.

if the dealer says you have the mp3 update, have them show you that it is functional. if you have any doubts in burning an mp3 cd, just try burning one thru itunes. you could also print out the tsb bulletin about the mp3 update. pre sept cars with idrive do not have the mp3 functionality to begin with. the car needs to be reprogramed. here is the link to the bulletin.

Ok...now I'm really getting pissed over this mp3 cd issue. I took my 330i to New Century BMW which is closest to me. I told them my car still doesn't play MP3 cd's. They looked like they didn't want to bother with me. They finally told me burned cd's of any kind will have problems in a BMW cd player. Their tech told them this. So once again I am left in the cold. My next plan is to try a different dealer. There has to be someone that can help me with this. It seems a simple issue is now becoming a big problem for me.

did you print out hte bulletin i linked you with? you should show them that. you should also tell them that your e90 is a pre-sept model issue and doesnt have the mp3 capability. it just needs the update. bringing in the printout will help you alot.

I'll take it to another dealer and show them the bulletin. The dealer where I live didn't even want to bother checking anything. They said no matter what any kind of burned cd will not function properly for my car. What else I don't get is according to my service record it has had some kind of mp3 software update. If that is true why is the guy tell me some models will not play MP3 cd's. I'm not asking for the impossible. I just want to enjoy having to not change the CD after 12 songs. Burned audio cd's work fine in my car. I swear those people at New Century BMW dealer are so lazy.

Sadly I think that applies to the majority of BMW dealers, at least in North America.

It is sad to be treated like a second class citizen at a dealer where you didn't purchase a car from. New Century BMW is the closest to me. It's about 5 min drive from my house. The dealer where I did purchase my car is about 40 mins away. I have an appointment for this friday at 7:30am. So I have to get up at the butt crack of dawn. Hopefully they can help me.

just to let you know, that they could have updated your car with newer software with mp3 capabilities, but if they dont follow the order of that bulletin, it wont work. the update on their end will say it has gone through, but mp3s wont work. also they should have an mp3 cd on hand to show you that it works. they are right in saying that burned cds arent officially playable in the car, but they still need to show you functionality with an mp3 cd of their own. i had an issue with my cell phone not loading the address book correctly and they said they tested it with a bmw approved cell phone. i asked them to show me and it didnt work infront of me. they said they would look at it further and they ended up replacing the ccc and the tcu i believe.
