BMW 318d weird noise/vibration

Hi everyone,

im having a very strange issue with my car, it is a 2009 318d N47 engine.

the issue is that when i drive my car and come to a stop and leave it to idle for about the 5 minutes, the cars engine sounds "deeper" and can feel a slight vibration through steering wheel and pedals. this only happens exactly a few minutes after coming to a stop and leaving the car idle.

the car is running the way it should and everything sounds mechanically fine but its just that deep/vibration noise that is annoying me lol

car has covered 125k miles and has been serviced 1000 miles ago, i did check if the engine covers and airbox were secured and everything checked out!

any advice much appreciated! thanks

EGR was replaced a year ago but could that cause engine noise to get "deeper" even if it's at the same rpm?

On some cars yes.

Check also the bolts for the DPF. The lower ones holding it to the bracket can come loose and cause a huge vibration. Not sure about the 5mins part though. Is the AC on when you experience the issue?

It's funny you mention the noise comes after 5 minutes of idling because that is the same amount of time (of idling) when the egr valve will close. Whether it relates to the egr or not I don't know.

The egr valve on the n47 engine is quite reliable and doesn't foul up compared to it's older brother.
