WTF? Need a laptop for BT tool?

Well, first off, I have a Mac but thought I had bootcamp running so getting the BT tool going would be no problem. Now that I have found out that I do not have bootcamp on my computer, and the Vista CD is upwards of $300....I am left with my desktop PC...but it seems you need to connect the cable TO the car AND the computer....which leaves me with no way to use the BT tool

Any advice? I am pretty much computer illiterate so be easy.

1st. VISTA suxs
2nd. Get a copy of Windows XP, whether it is an official copy or 'pirated'
3rd. If you don't have bootcamp, can't you run it parallel with your OS? One of the MAC genius on here should be able to help with that, as I have bootcamp and have xp installed on a partition.
4th. Hmm i don't really have a forth, but added it anyway.

You should be able to run VMWare Fusion or Parallels which will allow you to run Windows... Do some research on VMWare I run that with Vista and it runs fine...

No, I have bootcamp, what I meant to say is that I don't have a copy of windows (which bootcamp requires), and I can't spend $300+ on a new copy.

As far as I know, all other options require that windows copy in order to have windows running on your computer.

OOOOk... Someone should be able to score you a copy of Windows Xp... I have a copy... With install code... but I wouldn't go online with it... The copy on my mac is a legal copy... the one mentioned above, not so legal....

whether you use paralells, or vmware fusion or boot camp you still need a licensed copy of windows (unless you have a "copy" that works).

stick with boot camp since it is free - and buy a cheap oem license from newegg

Crying? Hardly, how many users on here have complained that they needed windows? Not many... And I believe Team Vishnu do use Mac's themselves with Windows running Parallel or in bootcamp themselves... So with that being said, It's not uncommon for people to be using Mac's with windows installed... in conjunction with a BT tool or even the PROcede...

I agree. But with Windows at what 85% of the desktop market....why would you develop your application for other platforms?

It just cracks me up that MAC guys have to run Windows on top of the Macs......and then complain about it. If you were an application developer you would not develop for MAC or Linux either.

I'm pretty sure you can download Windows 7 for free at the moment for evaluation purposes, it should be more than enough to run the BT program and its quite a bit better than Vista.

You can download it here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../download.aspx

Exactly right. Also, as good as parallels and fusion are, it's alot cleaner, faster and cheaper just running bootcamp. <$100 and you're good to go. Or borrow someone's laptop for a couple hours!
