E46 M3 Wheel TPMS Question

*** I have searched to no avail ***

I have an 07 335i and I was looking into throwing a set of E46 M3 18" wheels on and I was wondering if I can transfer my TPMS system from my 162s to these?

Thanks in advance!

E46 M3's don't have TPMS like the 2007+ BMW's do. Their TPMS is built into the ABS system, it senses if a wheel is rotating slower or faster than the other 3, and if it is, it will kick the tire sensors off. Newer cars do not have this system.

Ok, so I've searched some more (realoem included) and I'm even more confused. I have a late 2006 production date E90 335i. Where exactly is the sensor mounted? Is the location used on the E46s different than the E9x? From your last post, it sounds like it is impossible to have the sensors from my current wheels/car transferred to the M67s - is that correct and why not?

It would be really nice if there was a TPMS explained sticky somewhere.

Thanks again.

More than likely those wheels are TPMS compatible, but I don't know for sure as we do not sell BMW OE wheels, sorry.

Metal valve stem on your OE wheels = pressure sensors behind the valve stem
Rubber valve stem on your OE wheels = ABS based system (no sensors)

Its starting to make sense. I only need to be concerned about swapping TPMS sensors if I have the metal valve stems and thus the sensors.

Does that mean the sensor is built in to the stem?

I checked and have the rubber valve stems. Does that mean that the system will be to be reset/calibrated regardless of what type of rim I end up getting?

i'm running the e46 M wheels on my 07 335 now with snows, had the tpms installed and they're fine - you're good.

what color's your 335? the e46 wheels are growing on me, i might like them better than my 162s now.

Actually, this means you will not need to purchase any sensors or be concerned at all about the system no matter what type or size of wheel you buy as long as all four are the same overall diameter.

Ok, so then its virtually identical to the E46 system. Got it, thanks. Maybe I'll have to buy my set of V12s from you guys then!
