Best way to fix faded paint ?

this is not for a bmw but an old volvo S40 we use for taking the dog and stuff in.

It was originally bright red but over the years and no care at all. its completely faded to an almost white'ish orange.

When its wet it looks fine. but dry its awful.

whats the quickest and best way for me to fix this ?

thanks

Probably needs to be repainted.

In one of Picus' responses, he provided a link to autopia.org for information on using a PC. The link is below. In that example there is an orange/red truck turned back to sparkling red. I didn't read into it too much, but you may want to.

If the change in color is due to oxidation (quite probable from your description), a polisher may not be needed. A chemical cleaner may just be your ticket to the vivid red's that the paint once possessed.

Brands of chemical cleaners include:
- Jeff Werkstatt Prime
- Klasse AIO

I'd try a chemical cleaner before pulling the trigger for a polisher.

Good luck!

Cool. I might try out Werkstatt Prime on my mom's car. I have Zaino and wanted to give her car the same treatment I gave mine, but some parts are slightly faded.

Should I try the Werkstatt Prime to restore as much as possible then Zaino it, or am I better off buying Werkstatt Acrylic Jett Trigger instead of Zaino (stick to the same product family)?

If anything, you'll probably just save time with JW, as you can buff Prime off with AJ...

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Zaino won't have a problem bonding over Prime (so long as you don't let prime haze for the 30 mins). If anything, just do a quick IPA wipedown before you Zaino. Picus and others will clarify this for you!

Thanks for the reply. I'll see what the others say too

The other clarification I'd also appreciate is whether I clay the car first before doing this, if I want to go all out for a clean application. I'm guessing the answer is yes.

edit: to the OP, hope you don't mind my questions. Just find them related to your situation

Clay = yes.

Zaino will bond 100% over prime, prime is just re-formulated AIO. In fact they look great together. Since your car is Arctic, though, I would go with prime and acrylic jett trigger. Buff off the prime residue with trigger. Just remember when using prime thinner is better, and I mean it... or you'll find out why thick is bad.

Alright, thanks Kevin! I guess this gives me a good excuse to try the Primer + AJ then I can compare my mom's car (Gold colored Honda, still a light color so it's in the same category as Arctic) with my own I still have plenty of Zaino left!
