Question E90 330D - Where to get injector O-Rings?

Hi All,

any advice on where I can pick up some O-Rings for when I re-install the injectors? I tried BMW but each O-Ring is in the region of £5+ so it ends up costing around £60!

It's numbers 10 and 11 on the diagram:

If it helps I've managed to get a picture of one of the injectors showing a number, but it still hasn't helped me find these O-Rings online,

Most of the time any replacement injector will come with them.

I'd only be really concerned about the copper sealing washer. Part 11. As long as the o rings (part10) look ok I'd reuse them. They are only there to stop moisture and dirt getting to the bottom of the injector.

I got mine from the battery centre in Swansea. They are a bosch injector specialist. They will be able to locate them for you if you give the injector number.

Also try Shaun arkinstall fuel injection services in yate near Bristol. They will send them out as well

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the reply, I actually managed to find some O-rings and the copper washers and I've updated one of my other threads http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1491121

As I intend to create a little guide with links to the parts I purchased once I can confirm they are the right ones. Frustratingly enough I had to buy another torque wrench as the one I had starts from 20 something which was fine for when I was doing the rear coils but everything for the injector and rocker cover are like 8 Nm onwards but it will arrive today from Amazon along with some gasket sealant for the rocker cover gasket. I'm almost ready to start pulling the injectors and rocker cover soon. I just need to make up a contraption with my Dyson vacuum to suck all the crap from the injector bores.

Can I double check as Well, is it okay to lubricate the injector body with copper grease?

Cheers.

I never did on mine. My car was at 95k when I replaced all 6.

I used a small slap hammer tool for the injectors from sealey and they came out really easily.

Cleaned out the injector holes with a vacuum. Made sure the bottom of where the injector sits was clean. Mine were already very clean so just a quick blast with the vacuum and microfiber wrapped round a pole did the job.

I used a bit of hose pipe gaffer taped to the end of the vacuum to clean.

Also used an air line to blast around the injectors before you remove them and the lines. It will help keep the area clean.

I used a tiny bit of copper grease to hold the copper washer to the injector and refitted. I've done 15k miles and no problem.

I've heard of someone who used a wooden dowel with sandpaper superglued to the bottom to clean the injector seat. But mine were very clean.

Plus I'd be worried about reaming out the injector seat as the position the injector sits in crucial.

On some m57 engines bmw had to use spacers between the copper seal and the injector seat. It mentions this in the bmw TIS I think it was 2010 onwards but not sure. There were a small batch of engines that were slightly out of tolerance when manufactured and the spacers were the solution. Each spacer was individual to each cylinder and engine. Some people mistook this as a second copper sealing washer and threw them.

Hi Richard,

that's some great information, thanks for that. When I remove the injectors I will keep a look to see if any additional spacers have been used for being out of tolerance but I'm hoping with mine being a 56 plate it's okay and I don't recall seeing it being mentioned on newtis.

The one thing I don't have to hand is an air compressor, I cannot believe the amount of room you have around the injectors, it's near impossible to give it a good wipe by hand as many other videos show doing. I'm hoping my injectors (as far as cleanliness) are reasonably good as I had a quick go with the sliding hammer tool and it pulled up with hardly any effort, but once I moved it half an inch I just left it as I won't be pulling them out until Monday when my Elring valve cover gasket turns up.

Thankfully everything else has arrived, I've now got Silverlines smaller 3/8 torque wrench so I can properly do the valve cover bolts and the injectors to 8.8Nm (odd torque setting) and I also got some gasket sealant as it says on new tis some sealant is required by the brake vacuum pump. So I'll either do it all on Monday or wait until the weekend so I have more time.

2006. You will be fine. I had an old 530d e39 and those injectors were hard to remove. I think bmw managed to sort it with the newer models.

I did my glow plugs at the same time. (Make sure engine is hot) they came out easily as well. But on refitting I used the bmw high temp glow plug grease. As per TIS.

BMW does state in the tis that a small smear of high temp grease is ok on the injector shaft.

Try to get compressed air if you can. It helps keep the area clean as very little rubbish falls inyo the injector hole if you clean beforehand
