f30 unveiled.. disappointed
What does everyone think about the new f30?
I think its fairly so-so.. perhaps it will grow on me... I guess it should have been obvious that the f30 335i would have an n55 engine but that was a huge let down to me as well (in terms of seeing some exciting new hp/tq figures while we wait for the m3 engine release). I'm thinking I may leave bmw for my next car now... current top contenders being the jag XKR or the aston vantage (I'm holding onto the e93 for at least a couple more years as to justify spending that much coin on a car I really feel like I should be earning 1.5x what I do now Last edited by purifyer; 10-15-2011 at 03:20 AM.. |

I like it... can't wait to see the Coupe
The only thing I am a bit 'suss' about is the popup lcd screen from the dash... it looks a bit clumsy - but other than that - sexy...

I really like it and it seems quite aggressive even in nonsport form. Cannot wait until Msport is released!! Like said, pop up display is clumsy.. but I mean LCI will probably fix this.
Oh and squared off angel eyes look MEANN!!!!! |

I'm stoked with the F30.. not so much because I like the design, rather that the changes are so small that it doesn't instantly date the E9X!
(Unlike what the E9X did to the E46!)

the e93 is almost slammed now and I'm not having too much difficulty ... just drive <5km/hr the next door neighbours (in the country house) have a couple of maserati and a porsche and they seem to cope okay (the road is not paved and has potholes) |

I will need to put photos of side by side with an Audi and Merc. Once I've done that I will immediately be able to decide everything. Luckily with the Internet I can choose my next car without driving it, sitting in it or even seeing it in 3D. I just have to check out the pics on my iPhone!!!!

not a fan aye. Guess it'll grow on me eventually. The front end looks very wide and those kidneys have turned into rectangles.
On the plus side i really like that red

I quite like the look of the front and overall it sh@ts on the design of the current sedan. Having said that, the current E92 coupe is still far more elegent in my humble view. Be interesting to see what the new coupe looks like

+1 on square angel eyes
+1 on looking reasonably handsome albeit with some awkward angles which I'm sure we'll get used to +3 on (bring on the) msport +1 on being lighter than previous gen +1 on 8sp auto -1 it's getting too big while we're talking next cars I'm thinking: - C63 (sounds awesome but starting to look a bit dated) - 997 Carrera (default awesome car, but budget means '05 model which is getting old) |

Check the Msport out
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=592598 (Click Msport tab) OH MY GOD the rear is so FUGLY... Whats with the z4 style ugly steer wheel? Anyone think the bonnet and headlight shape look evo10? Anyone like the bonnet cut off design? just looks so weird to me..... Disappointing F30 M-sport wheel, copy of 1series 261 wheel. The dash is nice, interior stitching nice, Like the square angel eye with the led eye lid. Photo Comparison: F30 BMW 3 Series vs. E90 3 Series http://www.bmwblog.com/2011/10/14/ph...-e90-3-series/

The cockpit’s four circular dials (fuel gauge, speedometer, rev counter and oil temperature gauge) come with a black panel display. Positioned on the horizontally-structured instrument panel, the freestanding standard-fitted iDrive monitor with high-resolution display recalls the latest flatscreen televisions normally found in living rooms rather than cars. The monitor has no folding mechanism or binnacle, allowing the entire dashboard to retain its flat, smooth lines and giving the interior a lighter, more dynamic feel. To me, it seems that the screen just stays put, making it look more clumsy. My E90's iDrive screen integrated into the dash looks much better. Of course, I may have it wrong about the screen movement, but even in its upright position, it does not look properly integrated - at least not in photos. Cheers

I think the front of this car looks a bit strange right now. Not intrinsically ugly like the F20 1 series, but it might take some time to get used to it.
BMW seem to be moving the 3 series away from "Compact sports sedan", towards "Environmentally responsible luxury sedan". Its probably very attactive for companies looking to update their executive fleet cars. However for people pimarily wanting a vehicle designed to be a driver's car, I think it has lost some of the appeal that BMWs have previously held. |

Well its just my opinion but there are a few things, mostly that don't show up in the head-on view:
1) You can see the exposed outer edges of the chrome kidney grills though the area next to the headlights. 2) The front of the car drops down very sharply at the front. It gives a very flat and wide looking front end, and an unusual side profile. 3) There is a strange looking crease just below the number plate on the luxury and modern versions. The sport doesn't have it, but the M-sport has a more strongly emphasized U shape crease in the bumper. See: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=598186 |

Will wait until i see one in the metal to judge but i really wish they had not given the option of estoril blue on the M Sport versions - this has always been an M car colour - sort of makes it less special now.
