Need advice on sale/trade
Happy New Year everyone ,
I am looking for some advice. I currently have a 2011 335 XDrive coupe with 12XXX mile on it. I leased the car new through Murray motors and I absolutely love the car however I just found out my wife is pregnant with our first child. I want to sell it or trade it in for a truck possible. I was wondering what a good asking price is for it given the current season/market, or what a good price to accept on it as a trade in. I have attached a copy of the sticker which shows all the options. I also have a set of winter wheels and tires for it as well. I recently called an agent at amex auto buying program to see want they valued it at if I traded it in and they completely low balled me with an offer of 36k (supposedly from Arizona). I know it’s not valued that low right? Either selling it or trading it in I will have negative equity so I am trying to minimize that amount, I can keep it a little long to pay down some of the balance. Any advice is greatly appreciated. |

Years 1-2 are the biggest hit on depreciation, but $36k does seem quite a bit low. Probably the best option is to look for someone to do a lease takeover for you. I believe there are websites that provide a way to find people that want to do this...
Let me know if you are looking to sell your winter setup - I'll need one for my inbound vehicle in the March-April timeframe.

You may be better off selling the wheels and tires separate than trading them in with the car. Take some pictures and post them up here... heck, I may even me interested if the price and look is right!

Best price you can expect as a trade-in would be $40-42K. $36K is definitely a low-ball number.
Your winter tires and wheels are basically worthless as part of the trade-in so sell them separately. PM me if you want to know the logic behind the price.

Why did you block out the VIN? You know anyone can simply walk up to your windscreen and see the VIN?
Always puzzled by this. |

Hey, I've been dark for a while, but all is well. Nice to get to use awd in the snow.
How's the S4 compare to the xi in the snow, especially with that torque vectoring rear diff? Still dealing with what I think is a bad injector, debating putting stock DP's back on and going to dealer, plus hopefully get a few Rapidscreen (emissions) passes in at the same time. Have a PWM upgrade kit to install when car is running right too. |

Rich, thanks for posting this I was planning on trading my current car on my new BMW tomorrow. I saw your post and thought hell it can't hurt to drive over there and get a quote. 45 minutes later I had sold my car to them for more than the trade amount offered at the dealer and was on my way home with extra money in my pocket.

They are pretty smart too - like they explained to me, if your car is in good condition and well cared for, they are inclined to give you more than KBB - they don't have to go to auction (which is where they get a lot of their cars), ship it to them, recondition, etc. and they know they will sell quickly since they have a nationwide audience. One thing to keep in mind for other folks considering this - make sure the additional money they offer you makes up for the tax savings you will lose by buying at a dealer other than the one you sold your car to. -Rich |

Best thing is to be patient and sell it yourself. You have time. Don't act desperate, that's how you get taken advantage of. You can haul a baby in a 335, don't sweat it.

8URV8 the VIN is WBAKF9C50BE247458. That would be great if you could get me a value, I was looking at a Tundra crewmax or a F150 supercrew in fx4 or xlt trim. I cannot pm yet so let me know a way to get a hold of you and I could give you more info if you need it. |
