any luck with this issue and the noise from your LF suspension?

I have no first hand experience, but I've heard anecdotes of cars developing throw out bearing issues from improperly installed clutches. Perhaps yours was installed on the ragged edge of the spec and your impersonation of a locomotive for almost 1/2 of the vehicle's life caused the bearing to wear ?

Total speculation, sorry

The last speculation on the LF is the rotor itself..I am now trying to get my butt up to StaSIS Engineering at the Sears Point/Infineon race track for them to check it out.

Can you just go ahead and swap the rotor out? that seems like it would rule out the rotor very quickly. Or are your rotors so $$$$ it is worth it to pay fuel and use your time to get up there....

Wow, still working on this one eh? Good luck brother. Nothing more frustrating than a broken ride.

Funny, sometimes I feel that nothing is more frustrating than putting your foot down to exit a 40mph corner in 2nd gear in 328 and wondering why the hell the motor won't wake up and move the car forward

Tried to get a sound clip, but sometimes it just does not make noise
and sometimes it vibrates and makes a ton of noise

I get the same rattle sound after engaging/disengaging the clutch under light load, such as when pulling in/out the garage. I had the EXACT same sound in my former e46. When I heard it on the 335i, I was like "oh no, not that sound again?" But, I dismissed it as a BMW quirk. The sound started after about 15k miles on both cars. I try to convince myself it sounds "exotic" but it sounds junky imo. I guess it wouldn't hurt to note your concern over a possible bearing failure to your dealer.

Well all of this noise is gone!! It may have something to do with getting the
CDV, but now car is super awesome/much better, shifting is silky now.
CDV is not on my car if anyone at my dealer wants to know though

My LF noise was the rotor..and yes..they are so friggin expensive..and actually are not one piece..but two..that swapping in a set..if I could find one..would be too expensive. I ordered another set just in case..but I dont even want to think how expensive this is gonna be. Probably $800 - 1K with tax/shipping.

Sorry to bump...

Same issue here with my 335i-I initially started noticing it when I'd be near a wall and could hear the sound reflected back. Pushed in the clutch and it was gone. Same issue as my E36 325is.

Brought it to the dealer yesterday and they checked it out. Sure enough, it was the throwout bearing. Getting it fixed under warranty!

I am 100% then that it is might throw out bearing, but I may or may not have
the CDV mod and would not be sure if they would check for that on
someones car I may have driven

so i have the similar problem with either t/o bearing or flywheel chatter. how can i distinguish between the two?

- I press the clutch in, and sound is gone.
- I let of the clutch and sound it present.
- Nothing noticed while driving...

Yeah..the dealer said I should have been putting the car in neutral at stop lights...instead of just depressing the clutch...wait...actually that was Steve Dinan that told me that when I was in his office in Gilroy one time.

I get it, it's related to the transmission. So you think it's likely I have this problem, by my earlier explanation?
Ken,
If you drop by some time I can help tell you if the noise is T/O bearing. In return I'll share my 1st and reverse gear engagement clunk.

Here is a decent link http://www.jeepfan.com/tech/tech_clutch-link.htm for a description.

Both my e46 zhp and my e90 330i sport got new clutches around 30k miles due to t/o bearing noise that I could hear (took a few dealer visits). AFAIK, neither car was abused.

i've had this issue from the very beginning on my z4. currently has 32k and i hear it chatter/rattle everytime the clutch is out. when its depressed, it's silent. car is currently sitting at dealership for 30k/inspection i and i'm hoping they can fix this.
