Question

Would $400 for a 2 stage detail job, that includes wash prep, claying and then polishing with a sealant or wax, my choice be a decent price? Oh and NO interior work will be done. This is mainly for a jet black external paint correction job. I think at 70-80% rate?

P.S. after going over with the guy I found a very small dent in rear wheel well and small crease, probably a dent repair fix or it could be new? I dont know anymore?

I like the car alot but I am scared that I will put $400-$500 into it to make it look awesome and then have a bird shyt on it or some ass clown ding it at the mall and have all that money wasted?

$400 would be pretty decent. I would expect nothing less than 95% or better correction for $400.

As for the bird crap, just try to clean it off as soon as you can. Leaving it there can have some terrible after effects.

Good luck on the detail!

Pictures of the dent would help a lot. Otherwise, it's hard to judge what's small to you.

Cool MrDummy!

I saw all of your other threads and know you've been waiting a while to finally fix the damage the dealer did with their sandpaper. That looked awful.

Agreed with what SpecC said on price and correction rate. But I think you will see a huge improvement over what you're looking at right now. A truly clean JB looks stunning.

As for the door dings - do yourself a favor and park far away at very busy locations. At the very least scout out the spots, park in the larger ones and away from SUVs, pickups, and coupes with huge doors. Dent isn't the worst thing in the world though - PDR is cheap, quick, and works great.

And for bird bombs, keep a small bottle of QD in your car along with a clean MF cloth. When you see the doo, carefully remove it. It doesn't do much harm when it's removed quickly, but don't let it bake on there for days. That will cause the acid to do a number on your paint in that spot.

Post up some pictures when the job is done!

Thanks guys, My detailer Marc is coming by next saturday so he can start early in the morning and spend about 6-9 hrs total on it. The dent is very very small and on the bottom of the drivers side rear wheel well. Its one of those things you cannot see unless the sun hits it perfectly.

PS DOES ANYONE know how to KEEP the seal attached onto the lower rear windshield? Right now the dealers fix, which SUCKS, is just butyl tape and the corner keeps sliding down and falling off. Is there anything you could recommend I use to keep the seal tight to the glass and secure so it is not falling off every 10 mins? It is very annoying.

yeah, i've got that problem too. My dealer glued it back on for me though. I don't know how I would go about fixing it myself.

^^ My dealer supposedly did that twice now with NO luck, I think the way they glued it was jam some of that butyl sticky tape on the inside and then pushed it in and put some on outside thinking it would hold it. But it does not.

I guess I will see if anyone else has some ideas if not maybe try good old silicone?

Update, I just called the free dent wizard repair service I got with my CPO 325 and they said they should be able to fix it for free and I have up to one year BUT I can only use the service ONCE. So I think I will wait until my year is almost up to get that small dent/ding on wheel well fixed, incase I get a bigger ding/dent b4 then. I hope not though, as I park in the back 40 at work and have a big driveway, so my wife parks far away from it

Eh, you could go either way. PDR isn't expensive in the first place, so if this one is really bothering you might want to just get it fixed.

^^ not sure the products, I know he uses good stuff. he has posted pics of vehicles he did over at autotopia and he seems very nice. He charges a flat hourly rate and then guestimates the cost based on his past experience with how bad the damage is etc. Most of you know from my thread with pics at how bad the car is right now, so it might be cheaper than the $400, that was a high point for a 2 stage job. I am going to see if he can do it in one stage so it will cut the price in half almost.

PS any ideas on what to use to permenatly FIX that rear window seal? I would like to get that fixed b4 having it detailed.

Post some pics on the window seal, that will give me a better gauge as to what to use.
I have also followed all of your posts as you know, just wanted to wish you the best of luck with the detail.

^^ yeah that idiot guy at the dealer was WRONG, I get 2 repairs in one years time. so I am going to wait just in case I get a worse dent/ding. I have until 5/2010 and I am sure some ass clown will ding me by then.

I am more concerned with the seal falling off and me having to push it back on everyday. you can see the finger grooves in it from having to push on it so much

I remember you saying you just bought this car right? Well I know you have been back to that dealer more times than you have driven your car, but they should have replaced your seal.
Being that I know how rediculous your dealer is I know they will give you the run around on this so, I would do it the rite way and just replace the seal with a new one and be done with it. Should be a DIY project can not be too dif. You say they have tried glueing it on, the problem is if they do not clean it properly it will continue to come off.
Maybe before getting a new one, just clean off all the old residue and try glueing it again. I would use an epoxy of some sort, trust me, it will not come back off if you use an epoxy.

^^ Yeah this is what happened after they put a NEW one on already my friend. The original seal was ripped off from their car wash process. so they put a new seal on, then told me its fine, and by the time i got home that corner was falling off.

SO when I took it in for the vapor barriers to get re-sealed they just put some butyl tape on it and said it is repaired and will never come back off, but every day it slides off even with the sticky tape on it.

So I was wondering what I could use for that corner to actually hold it in place so it does not get hot or cold from weather and fall off again and again.

Update, well I just emailed the SM at the dealership I just had this repaired twice now at and here is the response I got. Also it looks like rain this weekend so my detail job might have to wait until next week sometime or next weekend at the latest.

SM: It’s probably not going to ever stay because these moldings tend to either form to the curve of the window or not. The ones that don’t form to the curve of the window just seem to be a constant battle. We need to bring the car back in and you can wait for the molding to be replaced or I can see if it’s possible for a Tech to come out to your workplace and replace it. We would have to watch the weather to try and coordinate it when there’s a couple of days without rain in the forecast. Please let me know what your thinking.

^^ I hope so, and I just need to make sure they are not going to try to charge me, since this is an existing issue.

This will be the 3rd NEW seal, so I hope the guy takes the time to clean the glass correctly and not just half asses it...
