another p30ff thread, COBB stg1

FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks Marv.

So while heading out to MIR's Import vs domestic race today, i went to accelerate out of a toll booth only to find no power. then after flooring it a few more times got a p30ff. my buddy pulled the AP out of the glove and we proceded to start investigating. I figured we had an hour or so of driving to figure it out. So we cleared the code and started monitoring data. Strangly enough it would build around 8 psi and then start tapering back down to 0. It would only set the p30ff if i went above 5k. even with a 5/6 roll on i used to hit 12 psi around 3k.

So we did a few datalogs. Still not sure exactly what is going on. But the car runs really smooth. its has good 93 octane fuel. My maps with stg 1 agr. were pretty good. Today i was running the sport map just to see how different it was. I did try chaging maps and it makes no difference.

dunno what gear these were in though. but stg 1 spt. Also have a muffler delete and DCI. Does this look like a Boost control solenoid issue?

It could a boost leak, or boost control. Start with the obvious. Tighten hoses, clamps whatever you have.

If the problem persists then move on to boost control, vacuum line, solenoids could be the issue. But they cost 200$ so you don;t want to swap them in before you are sure. If you know someone with an N54 you can swap them with him and see if the issue goes away.

i checked all the hoses and everything seems fine. Its factory charge pipes. and IC.

unmarried the AP updated it and flashed the 4.01 agr stg 1 map and now it makes 8 psi but same problems. no abnormal noises though i would think if its a boost leak i would hear it. im gonna test the WGs tomarrow morning with a vacuum pump.

Well if you are sure about the intercooler-> throttle body connections.

This should help you test vacuum/boost control

FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!! The nipple had busted off the vac canister(part number 12, the hoses were streched to tight. drilled it out and tapped a fitting in, all fixed.

I started thinking about it. inorder for it to build boost and then taper off slowly with out throwing any other codes it had to be wastegate control related. Then I realized that the only way for it to close the wastegate and then slowly open it would be a vaccum leak(since the vacuum closes the WG, causeing boost pressure to increase). if it were a solenoid issue it would likely fail completely or intermittantly. this was way too consistant. So the first place i looked when i got back to the car was the resivoirs and BOOM there it was.
