Installing F series engine into E series?

Hi,

My car is an 2010 E92 335i with N55 and DCT (2010 Euro model year, US would label it a 2011 I guess).
Engine has completely seized up on a trackday...

So far I have some quotes for replacement engines. One is from a 2015 435i.
Would that be a straight swap? What are things to look out for there? I know the F series engines have differences, including a different ECU. Would that still be compatible with a DCT transmission?

I am leaning towards an engine from a wrecked E series 135i as it's much cheaper, but the 435i engine is near new with something like 18 000km.

The 135i is 90000km, which is half my car's mileage so that's still not bad, if I get this one I think I'll get new rod bearings and baffling in the oil pan to make it more durable on a track.
But maybe there are some good reasons to pay more for the F series engine?

Any thoughts or advice from members here? Who has swapped in an F series engine and how did it work out?

doesn't look like he's done swapping in an F series engine but apparently it's possible.

Interesting. So by the looks of it you'd generally just use the new block and use your original DME, oil pan, PWG, and some other bits.

It looks like it. I don't think he's done yet though so can't be entirely sure.

It's absolutely possible! Factually, everything is ready to go back together. My progress has stopped momentarily due to my wife's health and the winter weather (my garage is an unheated HF portable garage).

I stop by every two weeks just to get a break from the realities of my life. It's with much sadness that I see my old friend Jeff leave for the world of F30s.

Wishing all my forum friends and member the very best to all that you hold dear this holiday season.
