e90 judders in long drives after breaking
Recently noticed that my e90 judders in long drives after breaking.when it judders there is a noise coming from the front, then I slowdown to 40 miles, run slowly for few mins its back to normal! It happens again after a little long drive at motorway speeds and I break few times. Once I stopped the car and could smell something burning, called recovery guy, he came checked engine oil, coolant, clutch etc and said all ok to drive, but warned my brake discs could be causing this. Could this be true?

Probably worth undertaking a bedding-in process for your pads before doing anything else - its worked for me .
http://www.essexparts.com/learning-c...rs/post/Bed-in the bit you need is near 3:40 I think

When you experience the judder, pull over and place your hand on the wheels in turn. If the caliper is sticking, it will often create a good amount of heat that is transferred to the alloy.

hello @wallsmk2 you are a genius, you are right, today I had the issue and when I touched one of rear allows was very hot whilst others were cool, so looks like certainly a seized caliper issue here. Not sure how much it is going to cost though, I will go to halfords.

good stuff. I think bmw sell 'guide repair kits' so it may be worth checking with your local dealership and supplying the bits rather than the garage just cleaning yours up.

The rear driver side caliper is sticking, tomorrow I will get that replaced,
now my question is should I replace 1) both brake calipers on rear and also discs and pads? 2) or just both calipers at the rear? 3) or just one rear caliper that is sticking? Please someone take time to answer as I need to book for tomorrow. Thanks guys. |

Any of the above is valid.
Doing the disks and pads now will save you some labour, but depends on their condition. If they're nearly new, theres no point, if they are well worn, then you might as well get them changed. If the other caliper is fine, you can probably leave it be, but if ones siezed up, you may find the other is also close to siezing up. |

I think I will change both calipers. discs and pads only if they are worn out. |
