2009 325d excessive oil consumption

Hi

I really need some help.

I noticed I was losing oil. About 4 weeks ago I replaced the oil and oil filter.
Checked the dipstick today and its is showing on minimum and I mean the minimum.

What I did noticed that when I removed the oil drain bolt that there was no crush washer on it. So I drained the old oil replaced the bolt (Inc washer).

There is no smoke when I am pulling away. There is no oil on the trays or anywhere on the sides of the engine.

The turbo whistle is not excessive- can it be the turbo seals? (there is no smoke)
I thought it might be the crankcase breather?
Could I have overlooked the old crush washer?

The water coolant level is fine.

Seriously any help woluld be really appreciated?

Assuming you have turned the engine after adding the oil, then checked it again to ensure the levels were OK?

Have you check for any leaks?

If the car was ok before I would say it was something you did or didn't do.

I just bought the car so I dont really know I bought it about 8 weeks- I poured in 7 and half litres as recommended - the dipstick was at maximum - what I mean maybe there was fault before I'm not sure

If the oil is not dripping anywhere, it does not matter how long ago you changed it, but the number of miles driven does (it's like people giving their display size instead of resolution when they want to know if their PC can handle a certain game).

BMW claims that these cars can eat up to 1 liter every 1000 miles, so if yours ir using less, there might not even be an issue with the car, just an anoying "feature".

My cars done 102k - if thats the case 1 litre per thousand its very very annoying .

My audi a4 in three years of driving only took a extra litre.

My megane 1.9Dci never needed topping up and in 2 years of driving I abused that car by not ever servicing it

7.5L might simply not have been enough... I'm sure mines more like 8-8.5L.

Fill the engine up to maximum, run it for 30 seconds then leave to sit for half an hour and check the level again.

When doing an oil change, about a litre of oil will vanish into the new oil filter, so 7.5L might have been enough to get it up to the maximum then when you've started it the level has dropped right down.

Top it off properly and keep an eye on it, check it every week and see what happens. Note the mileage down too.

Had the oil level warning come on?

Yes makes sense regarding losing some to the oil filter. There was no warning lights.

Sounds a little like there may have been too little put back in, monitor as others say for a week or so. My 2010 325d hasn't used any extra oil in 5K.
