It's like the car is shaking on a windy day when stationary. Only happens at start up and sometimes when idling in traffic/stationary.

Is this engine mounts?

I'm at 102K miles.

Any recommendations on mounts?

Expensive? Easy to DIY?

Thanks

Mine does something like that sometimes when started from cold in very cold weather. Its a missfire, in my case caused by a duff glow plug. Goes away after a few seconds once the cylinder comes online.

Given yours is a petrol, i presume its a spark or injector issue?

Not sure it is a spark or coil failure. My 335i does it and it's had new coils, spark plugs and a walnut blast. It's probably the engine mounts. Not sure how easy they are to replace though, sorry.

With ethanol in fuel these days the volatility can not be ideal for cold starts. Shaking should disappear once warm if this is the issue.

I had this same issue on my E90 330i about a month ago. I ran the tank down, filled up some Redex in it and then filled it up again. It's been running perfect since.

I've not read great reviews about redex. They seem to suggest it's just red dyed kerosene.
Miles are fairly high op. Might be a good time to look at new plugs and coils.

Coils are £27 each for good Bosch ones and plugs are probably a fiver each for OEM Bosch ones.

Thanks. I guess I need to hook it up and do some data logging to see if there is actually a misfire. Will have to wait to the weekend.

A misfire usually triggers the Check Engine Light.

I did post a video. If I can find it i'll add it here. This was soon after fitting down pipes and I don't think my car was adapted for them yet. Whatever the issue was it seemed to resolve itself.
Maybe do a lamda reset of adaptations if you can.
