E92 Gap between Tweeter Housing & Door cards
Hi,
People with E92s & have the front tweeters.... do you have a small gap between the housing & door cards? I have have a slight gap, especially on the drivers side! Is this the norm or haven't I put the door card or housing on properly? It looks like the door card needs to be tighter to the door - if I push the card in, the gap gets smaller! Cheers Last edited by jammy78; 09-15-2013 at 01:33 PM.. |

If you bend one of the door card fixings it will not sit flush.
As I found out to my expense If you gently pull the door card from the edge there should be no movement. It should sit tight against the door. A bent stud will allow movement and prevent the door card sitting home properly. The studs are very fragile, if you are not lined up 100% perfect they will bend or snap. Hope that helps Jon

I guess he is referring to these.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-BMW-In...item416b2ed5fc I'd suggest you to take the door card off and inspect these before ordering.

Or is it part 13? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...93&hg=51&fg=50 They are different door cards with no damage - the passenger side is fine but the drivers side has this gap (like my previous card)! I don't know why!!! So should the panel sit flush to the tweeter housing? It's driving me crazy!!! |

Jammy are you talking about the top of the door card or the main section?
The top has the metal clips you push down hard on to engage. You will know if its not home if there is movement when you pull the top section away from the door by the window line. I will take some pics later of mine so you can compare but yours looks ok. Have you pushed the tweeter housings in properly? They are fiddly buggers to fit as they use rubbers guides to locate them. Unlikely the metal clips have broken unless one has been squeezed shut which will force the top of the door card away thus leaving a gap. Jon

Did you fit used tweeter housings or are they brand new ones? They have a semi-circled plastic bit protruding. This fits in a groove in the metal of the door and basically, you have to push down until it looks into place and then there is a metal clip bit that clips onto the rectangular metal groove. If it doesn't go in /removed perfectly it will shred a bit and won't feel secure. Also if you don't pull the door car out evenly the metal clips can shred the plastic groove on the door card too.

It could be that you have not fitted the tweeter housings properly, as mentioned by bmwak.

I've got new oem clips, so going to re-fit it all at the weekend!
I got a feeling its the top clips on the door that's the problem! I'll check if there's any damage to the holes also! Do you have to use some force to clip in the top, as I haven't needed to? |

You have to apply a bit of pressure but you certainly don't have to force it. You should hear a few audible clicks when its correctly seated. Try running the palm of your hand at the top of the door card with a bit of pressure from left to right. If ones not seated you should hear it click back into place. They are metal so won't crush if misaligned, like the plastic cone shaped clips.
