Newly Bought 06 330xi

What up party people...

I've always dreamed of driving a BMW since I was 17 (at one point I had the ENTIRE key specs of the E46 M3 memorized... I can't even remember my GF's number !), and now here is my chance with an '06 330xi Sedan, Black/Beige Dakota leather with Premium, Nav, Cold Weather and HID packages.

Prior to getting my Bimmer, I had no car for 2 years; I had a financial meltdown and had to sell it, not to mention my '99 Solara SLE was approaching 180K and needed lots of work and maintenance anyway; busing and walking around the LA area is NO JOKE. Got my Bimmer unfortunately as a result of my dad passing away almost 3 months ago and inheriting his '05 Dodge Dakota pickup, but with a V8 4×4, it was drinking gas like a broke college student at a "free beer" booth; it felt like less than 14/17MPG as it tore through empty-to-full every 3 days, and it showed in the lack of hits from classifieds even when I listed it $3K below KBB, and the few that called wanted $2K less...

...So, I got sick of waiting and decided to just sell it to CarMax, but they appraised it for the same price as my asking price of $8K... Also when I saw this beauty on the lot and realized my lousy credit was actually approved, I jumped for joy and bought it, then used the trade-in as a down payment

Congrats!! Here are few recommended cosmetic mods!

- Swap the grills with Matt Black ones. They look really good.
- Tint out with 20-30% and no darker than that. Else it be too black.
- Wheels!!! Looks like you got 17' 159's.You can score a 18' 287 OEM or whatever ones' you like from other members at a great price.

Thanks for the customization recommendations, f30nynj :-)

To those that are doubting me, I'm serious as cancer with EVERYTHING.

Although FB pics don't buy me much clout, but all I've been talking about lately is the features of my car...

Not doubting the car, just when you read what he wrote, just seems.....real inconsiderate of certain things.

What do you mean by that? I'm confused.

If you're talking fiscal responsibility, I make more than enough to make the payments; the "financial meltdown" I mentioned was 2 years ago and I'm wayyyyy beyond that point.

If it's about trading in/selling my dad's truck, well... I'd keep it for sentimental reasons, but:

1. My dad had severe depression, stopped taking his meds, lost it and took himself out. I will spare [gruesome] details of what I had to deal with, but I got PTSD from it for a while and seeing his truck triggered that response, and selling the truck is for the better, especially also considering that:

2. I am currently in marketing, and I often have to meet and even transport clients in a "suit-and-tie-professional" setting and drive about 300 miles/week; the horrible gas mileage, dismal rear passenger space of a pickup's club cab and about 3 other things about having this truck that DOES NOT work well for my purposes.

3. I know this sounds cold, but just because I inherited something doesn't mean that I'd have to keep it, especially since I am not even in a position to handle 2 vehicles at once... Even if I did keep it, it'd probably just sit in the garage most of the time.

4. Everything needed to keep it was expensive: A. It was bought/registered in Oregon, and all the stuff needed to make it Cali legal ($251 registration, $60 smog, but at least I won't be the poor schmuck paying $1,200 more in taxes if I sold it private party), B. 90K service is due ($700) B. 90K timing belt replacement was due ($250) C. Front brake pads were at 30% and I may need the rotor turned ($250-$350) D. The rear air shocks seemed to have a slow leak and I had to manually fill it from 0 PSI every few days (I haven't found anybody willing to fix it but it'd probably be $300), and E. There's no way I'm going to pay the lowest quote of $1,711 for all that service, maintenance and fees for a truck that's not suiting my needs.

Sorry about the long post.

The trolling is weak in this one. I believe him. Congrats on getting over the PTSD and picking up where you left off. It seems your car is very well suited for the job/profession you are in. Congrats on the nice car and welcome to the forum. We get a lot of noob trolls here once in a while with new accts so we're usually skeptical about these stories. You'll understand why after a while and you'll find this community quite honest and non-forgiving.

+1 to Nkc

Sorry OP about your story and your dad.

OP is not trolling, he posted in the photography section earlier but not the whole story (no reason to).

Why is everyone saying cute car though?

It's a nice car!

Enjoy it, I still remember my first Beemer, how she drove, the feeling I got, etc. (and my second, and my third)

Thanks for your understanding, and considering that BMWs are pretty sought after, I can kinda see how wannabes can pop-up... Not to mention I tend to ramble in general but even more so when I'm happy about something, especially considering that this is the best car I've ever owned... Also in my last automotive forum it was almost the opposite; SolaraGuy had an Introduction section and new members were actively encouraged to introduce themselves so I carried over that mentality a bit, hence this thread.
