sorry to be ignorant, but what exactly does a catch can do? and is it pretty easy to install? I see alot of members running them and I may have to pick one up myself.

Why we run it? well because blow by oil, which is more significant in some cars than others, will end up in the combustion chamber and will cause carbon build up. The higher boost you run the more blow by you'll have. The circuit to which we install the catch can is the WOT circuit btw. it will slow down the carbon build up process but not eliminate it. After a lot of research I've opted for the BMS one. I haven't checked it to see the oil it caught if any. Big Tom's OCC caught a decent amount.

checked mine the other day and I have a couple drops of oil in 4k miles... just means my oil separators are kick ass compared to others. Also when I cleaned my valves at 65k it was basically unnecessary. I feel fortunate.

The OCC is now in the lowest position in the system and all the oil runs into the OCC instead of going back to the crankcase. |

Quick question about the U bend going upwards. Wouldn't some of the oil that builds up on the U bend area go back towards the opening due to gravity? Is this going to cause any problems with any oil blow by that isn't able to go all the way up?
I already have my BMS OCC in my backseat waiting to be installed, but was just wondering when I saw the instructions and this picture. |

The oil is traveling from the crankcase to the intake, which means that the oil will have to climb an uphill in the last part of the system. (And therefore be forced to the OCC) I think this explains it quite good: |

BT beat me to it....the tube with the U-bend is the outlet on the can. the inlet point on the can actually sits lower than where it connects at the crankcase, which is what Tom was referring to with regard to gravity pulling the oil towards the can.

Awesome service Mike, we as Canadians some time find that getting part for our cars can be a bit complicated. There is always customs, duties, additional shipping charges, etc. Some vendors, such as Tiago@vrsf, have helped me in the past to avoid unnecessary cost but n54tuning it is THE best so far. I've ordered a catch can on wednesday around 11:00 pm eastern and the catch can just arrived in my home. I live about 50 km west of Toronto.
Thank you for an unbelievable service Fed
