BMW's SIRIUS satellite radio free trial period
I bought my pre-owned BMW last October. I thought the SIRIUS satellite radio free trial period with BMW was for a year. Yesterday my satellite radio cut out after only four months and said I need to call SIRIUS to have the service activated (i.e. I need to start paying for the service). Before I call my local BMW dealer to bitch them out, am I wrong in thinking I had free SIRIUS for a year as part of my BMW purchase? Has anyone else gone through this?

I bought mine CPO in August and it only had a 90 day trial period... Thought it was only for 90 days...
If you get a year let me know andI might get mine reactivated too... I let mine expire after 90 days... Didn't use it much unless the ipod died... Seems the a new purchase will come with a years subscription but the pre-owned was only 90 days... |

My guess is that what happened is that your pre-owned car had it's own subscription and they just left it as is because the car was not re-certified.

I didn't pay extra for a factory option but maybe the original owner did. It was CPO/used and I'm almost sure they said I would have the SIRIUS for a year before I had to pay.

yup, that's BS. A salesman will say anything to sell the car. If you didn't pay extra then you are getting the tail end of the PO's service. You can certainly call and demand the prorated difference as you factored it in into your price when buying a car. The question is, how much haggling do you want to do over 100 bucks.

You only get the year on a new activation. The previous owner most likely had used up most of that time. I bought a new unit for my 2006 and got the year.

"BMW and Sirius XM radio announced today that all Certified Pre-owned vehicles that are equipped with Sirius radios will receive a three month trial to the “Sirius Everything” subscription. BMW will continue to offer SIRIUS as an exclusive factory-installed option on all new BMW vehicles with a one-year bundled subscription included in the price of the vehicle."
link if you got 4 months, you win. |

Thanks for the article Dave. It looks like my time was up. Obviously the salesman was bullshitting me about the one year trial subscription. I sent an email to my dealers general manager today to ask him what the policy was for CPO's and satellite radio. Once I get his reply I let yall know what he says.

My (new) Touareg came with three months of Sirius. However, it stopped working after about six weeks. My wife called Sirius and they gave us at least another three months (might have been six, I will have to ask her). They live and die by subscriber numbers. Call them up and they'll probably give you a few months extra in the hope that you will then become a paying subscriber.

I just got the email back from the dealer...The SIRIUS trial period for a CPO is only 3 months. I still think the salesman said a year when I bought the car and either was full of BS or just got it wrong.

Frickin' salesman. So many of them don't know what the heck they are saying 1/2 of the time. They'll say anything for you to sign on the dotted line!

You have to see the world from their end. You get hired as a salesman not because you like cars but because you like to make money. Many people go to dealers these days hoping to get an expert on the car they're buying. That simply isn't the case, but there is no excuse, the web is full of information about any car out there.

Plus, the bald-faced lies don't help their case. Cosmop, are you going to consider a Sirius subscription? |

BMW's SIRIUS satellite radio free trial period
I purchased my 08 as a CPO. When the dealer and I set up the Sirius account the Sirius rep indicated my vehicle still had the original 1 year activation available.

When you call Sirius ... HAGGLE!!! I got a lifetime subscription for slightly over the price of a paid up-front two year subscription. I plan on keeping the car for more than two years, so it seemed like a good deal. If something happens to the car (i.e. Totalled) they will transfer the subscription to a new car (with documentation). A new purchase they will not. However, the lifetime Sirius subscription is transferable, so maybe you can upsell that, or use it as leverage on a trade-in.
I also had a service tech tell me that the satellite receive is a separate unit that can be removed if you get a new car and transferred to that new car. That is assuming that the electronics, connections, etc, stay the same. Sign up for Sirius ... all of you ... I own stock in them and bought when it was almost at an all-time low. |
