Accident and need help - Total or Repair?
I wrecked my E92 last week by running off road and hitting a tree. I'm with State Farm and they estimated the total repair costs to be around $17,xxx less deductible is $16,xxx. Mine is a '09 with 63k miles and the NADA retail values comes to around $26k (the agent told me they estimate based on NADA Retail value). What is the chance of my car being totaled? I read that when the estimate is 75% or more then the insurer would total a car in NC. And from the initial estimate it is less than %75. I would rather have it totaled because the car looks horrible from the wreck (attached a pic).
What are the chances of me negotiating with the insurer or have another guy estimate to show more repair costs? or hire an attorney (is it worth)? Anybody gone thru this or have an advice? Thoughts? Thanks all, Deepak |

Sorry about the accident. It looks really bad. I would definitely stay away from Attorney unless a physical injury is involved. I myself got in an accident two weeks ago and in the same boat as you are. But for me, once my car is fixed, I'm planning to sell it off.

Yeah, just to clarify, if the damage is severe enough the 75% of the value gets thrown out. That car would never be right again if someone tried to fix it. I'd be surprised if the frame is not bent.

The car is totaled and I'm getting the NADA retail value of the car from State Farm. Now it's with an auction company and they sell it and the car gets fixed and mostly sold to overseas. Yes overseas. That's what I heard from the auction company when I went there to remove my JB4 from the car.
