Speeding ticket question
Hi guys,
My mom got a speeding ticket (25mph+) from S.I. which is 6 points. Since she lives in NJ, I know that only 2 points will be carried over. But is that same for the insurance points? or would whole 6 points show up on her insurance? She rarely gets a ticket and we are trying to find out if $400+ attorney fee would worth it to waive the ticket. I mean if only 2 points would carry, I assume paying off the ticket (~$200) isn't a bad idea. Any recommendations? |

she should fight the ticket, even without a layer they will reduce her trap speed.
However not sure how 25MPH over the speed limit will be handled... thank god never had to deal with that.

It's not just $200. They are going to tack on a surcharge and a drivers assessment fee since its 6 points. Probably looking at another $400 on top.

All 6 transfer to insurance even though only 2 carry over in DMV. Each surcharge is 100 per point so that's 200 dollar fine plus 400 surcharge. Plus higher insurance. Easier to just fight the ticket and plead it out

Unfortunately, there's no plea bargaining in S.I.
Lawyer is the only way to to if you want to fight it. Thanks all for the recommendations. |

worth noting that points come off your license after 18 months and are effective from the date of the ticket. So if the case keeps getting pushed back, the points may never actually affect your insurance. A lawyer is definitely the way to go just to keep getting it moved if anything.
