auto light function?

Hey

I just noticed that all LHD cars have the auto light function whereas RHD dont!

has anyone got the auto light function on the headlight switch (located at 11 o'clock on the module)??

auto lights are an option , both for left and right.

Normally , the auto function is used in conjunction with the rain / optical sensor in the windscreen

Depends on the specification of the car.

I think it's an option on 4-cylinders and standard on 6-cylinders.

Has anyone one else found like i have(2007 335d) that the Auto Wipers even on the quickest setting wait till there's 3000 gallons of rain water on your screen before wiping - its F'in Dangerous!

My E46 330d had them and they were super - and the sensitivity control worked just right

I'm thinking of giving it back to BM to fix b4 the warranty is out

Mine seem to be alright sensitivity wise, but perhaps we don't get as much rainfall intensity as in some other areas...

I've not had an issue with the auto-sensing wipers but then I've not driven in massively heavy rain.

In light-medium intensity rain they seemed to work perfectly and the sensitivity adjustment worked well too.

I don't use the automatic function on the lights though, I tend to drive with my headlights on all the time (habit from biking I think). I feel having your lights on during the day (not just DRL) increases your visibility and lord knows with some of the drivers on the road today you need to literally be shouting your presence!

I've never had a problem with my auto wipers even in heavy rain - they even switch to high-speed continuous wipe when necessary. I tend to find they wipe a little too often in light rain, but it's not horrendous.

There was a software problem 06-07 where the sensitivity adjustment didn't work and it was stuck on not-very-sensitive so you had often intervene yourself.

My 06 330i had this fixed with a update, then it was just great.

Maybe yours still needs the fix?

I used to do this (hangover from bikes too) but just got fed up of people flashing and waving at me.

I once had someone stop infront of me at a junction, get out and walk up to my window to tell me I had 'left my lights on' WTF?

I wouldn't say it was shit, they all work like this in my experience, its auto-intermittent not auto on/off, thats why you don't have the intermittent mode option with auto wipers.

For light showers or spray from other cars etc you just use single wipe, then when you want the car to take over just press the button.

If they were on all the time they'd be going when the car was in the car wash, or on frosty mornings etc when you were trying to scrape the screen or when your washers are frozen and smearing the glass when you don't want it to.

Unfortunately, the side mirrors only defrost when the auto wipers are engaged. So I end up having to dodge the wipers every morning when scraping ice off the windscreen

Thats odd? It makes no sense at all???

My side mirrors defrost without doing anything.

I used to put on the rear window heater as in most cars the mirrors are linked to that, but soon I noticed steam coming from the side mirrors within moments of starting the engine without putting on the rear window heater (defo not putting the wipers on)

Maybe its automatic-mirror-heat at close to freezing or below??

On the original e90 the mirror heaters activated when temps were < 5 deg C and the auto wipers were on.

Haven't actually checked to see if this is still the case on the LCI.

On the e46 it was (sensibly) linked to the rear window heater.
