Map 8 Dyno

Has anyone dyno'd on map 8? I'm curious what hp the n54 makes without being assisted by turbos.

(it feels like 140 whp max to me)

I would guess closer to 165 at the wheels. Going for an NA build?

It felt like a civic until about 3000rpm , and then it fell on its face and really felt like a Honda fit.
Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! I would be interested to know as well for shiits and giggles.

hmm, kinda of cool. I'm about to switch to 93 pump and run Map 8 all winter, see how my MPG changes and preserve turbo life till Spring. haha!

It really does fall flat at about 3500rpm. I'm guessing that timing is being pulled as well.

well don;t forget it falls off at high rpm for multiple reason.

one big one is the intake tract is not optimized for N/A. usually you'd have the intake feed in to the throttle valve directly. In this case it has to go through the intake tubes, turbo, intercooler, charge pipe before it gets to the engine.

it is restricting air intake hence your engine simple falls off the higher its oxygen needs gets.

Reason I say this, is it's not fair to the N54 when we say it is Xwhp NA because we're starving it for air.

Sounds about right. I thought Shiv did this in N/A mode back in the day... Trying to dig it up.

I used to roll around in N/A mode back in the day. I just liked the way it brought back in the I6 BMW exhaust note.

Good point.

be careful running NA, unless the fuel pressure is biased in reverse... which I don't think is possible... you'll have some wacky LTFT. The DME still thinks its running full load and has to compensate.

It's a neat concept but not sure how much you should really be running around in Map 8, the tune isn't going to be very optimized for that setup. I've always hoped somebody would bust out an NA map in ATR with somebody actually advancing the timing of an NA motor and setting the AFR's properly. I think it feels a lot slower than what it really is due to the wider powerband and the long gears.

Actually a 328i is much faster. I've tried against a friend and there is really no comparison.

As I said above, even with a fine tuned map in ATR for NA, the intake on the car is too restrictive for NA. The car suffocates for air very early in the band.

Not a chance it's making that much power.

I don't have the dyno sheets scanned but I can tell you that when I was FBO I did 183whp on Map 8. I forgot to update this long ago.

I've raced a few car on map 8. Speed is comparable to a civic SI. I'll dyno my car soon on map 8.

I don't know what to say... It doesn't feel like 183whp to me.

Well the last car you had 183 whp in probably weighed 1k less most likely.

Bump for additional feedback on map8. Any mpg figures from anyone else? What about the intake tract issue. Anyone just removed the charge pipe and fitted a K&N filter on the throttle body ?
