Heeeeellllpppp BC Coilover Balls-up!!!

So I took my car to have Bc Coilovers fitted, all went well or so I thought.

I have come away with a knocking sound at the back.

I had a look in the boot and noticed that the bung that goes under the big washer at the top of the shock was not there on the passenger side (knocking side) and it was there on the drivers side. What makes it worse is that where the hole is to put the allen key in to hold the centre of the shock still whilst tightening the nut, the f*****g idiot has chewed it up so there aint no way of me getting the shock off to put the bung in.

Has anyone faced this issue and if so how did you get over it. I can't see another way of holding the centre still whilst undoing the top nut.

Put some weight on the rear shock and see if you can loosen it that way whilst it is under tension? Take it back to whoever fitted it

Nothing against your mechanical abilities. But it stands to reason that, if you paid somebody to install them. And that somebody miffed it up, then let them figure it out.

Otherwise, I've found that sometimes you can use a slightly larger torx bit to hold those stripped out Allen screws, it's not very easy, and certainly not the proper method. But once you get to torqing it down, it may be beneficial to screw on 2 nuts at the top and force them together, then use them to hold the center still.

A bit rough but you can use a set of vice grips and a rag to clamp the shocker's shaft, should provide enough tension to allow the nut to be removed.

So, I took it back to them,

Told them that the cocked up and need to not only sort the knocking by installing the rubber bush but also replace the strut that they chewed up.

Oh and I forced them to give me a courtesy car too.

Once its sorted they are never going to lay a hand on my car again, bloody useless bastards.

FFS! Hope you get it sorted

Can you please name and shame the garage so other members don't ever experience this kind of incompetence!

Also do you mind sharing how much you paid for the coilover install and did it include and alignment after?
