Budget Advice...

So, I've just recently acquired an '06 e90 330i with sport package meaning it has the stock 162 style wheels, with the Bridgestone Potenza runflats. The only thing is that I want to switch to a 19" rim requiring me to get new tires as well, and on a budget no less. So I'm thinking of selling the wheels which are in good condition on eBay to try to get the most cash out of them ($250-270/wheel), and then selling the tires which probably have 50% treadlife here on the forum for idk, $300 for all 4, hopefully putting me at about $1300-1400 in the pocket. Then I'd end up going with some 19" VMR V701's and Michelin PSS all around coming in at around $2300 including tax, meaning my net expense would be about $900-950, which fits in my budget. Any thoughts on getting the most money as possible out of the OEM's without ripping somebody off?

Used tires are pennies on the dollar; to many variables.....$300 no way...but good luck...you never know.

$300 for all four sounds ridiculous? Thats only $75 per tire...

Fact is nobody wants runflats. So it may be a hard sale. Also why not get Hancock v12 instead of pss's and save a little more money?

How much less would the Hankooks be? Their website shows no prices...

here your options

1. save until you have enough money, stock wheel wont kill you.

2. 162 can be sold pretty easy. though realistically id expect someone to pick the up for 500-600 thats with tires of course. if you try to get 1000 or more people will ridicule you till you lower your price. you'll spend more taking off the tires and selling seperate. 50% tread is not alot.

3.you can search for a used set of rims on here for less then 1000. its possible. but may not have those pss you wanted.

If your wheels are pristine (absolutely no rashes) then you'll get more for your wheel one at a time on ebay (Not as a set). As far as tires, good luck. Used tires have very little value. 50% tread left to me means they'll need replacing in 5-7k miles.

I would personally ride the tires out until replacements are needed. Then get the wheels you want. At least you don't have to worry about TPMS sensors since it's an 06.

So basically, drive the shit out of the Bridgestones on it, then get a pair of used 19" and Hankook V12's? They are surprisingly cheap, so maybe I could do wheels and tires for $1600 and try to soften the blow by getting $200 a piece out of the rims on eBay?

I was thinking something like $230 each wouldn't be too crazy to get out of the rims

thats a brand new rim.

you're only going to get maybe 100 a rim if you sell one by one. of course you have the chance of them not selling at all. or just selling 1.

ive seen pristine set of 162 with tires go for 450.

good luck selling the 162's at that price... been trying to sell mine for months now at 600 for all 4. Not a single reasonable offer.

at this point i'd rather just keep them.

you're not going to get anywhere near $1300-$1400 for your 162's.

I have come to realize this. it was definitely optimistic thinking, but who doesn't do that when you're scoping out your first mods??

here in Tampa there's a place that sells used tires, including name brand summer tires. It's not unusual to see good tires with 60 plus pct of tread left to be advertised for around 1/3 of what TireRack will sell them for. Oh btw this place's price includes mounting and balancing. They also seem to advertise lots of runflats and they are advertised even cheaper.

Like you, there are many people thinking about ditching their OEM wheels and tires to replace with aftermarket. I think the market price for 161s is probably around 250 to 300 for a complete set, depending on condition.

From what I've seen, prices for other cars' wheels are even cheaper. At least some people want OEM BMW wheels.

Here is something to consider... 19" VMR wheels are junk compared to 162s. I mean total garbage. In addition, they will bent before you know it and 19 tires are more expensive than 18".

Here is what I would do: Keep 162s and get PSS tires. They will look better, built to last by BBS and PSS tires are awesome. Then get AA tune and enjoy!

If you are going to spend money don't spend it on junk. Just my 2c ...

Like everyone else is saying... No way you'll get that much for your set. Save up your cash and keep the 162's as backup. (that's what I did.)

You're in CA just like I am. Hit up craigslist. You can find a set of 162's with tires for $3-$500. If you wanted to.
