I'm thinking of an upgrade...
I've enjoyed the 330d LCI e91 ( ex cop 280bhp). I have around £20k. I need to step up in terms of performance. Ideally it would be an E91 M3.
Unfortunately BMW does not offer me a solution. It has to be an estate. Practicality and power I cannot compromise on. I travel a lot into Europe as the Mrs is from Slovakia. Equipment is not important to me as much as what's underneath. Just for you to get the picture, before my 330d I had a W209 CLK 55 AMG. The options I have are a C63amg estate / RS6. I'm looking at getting my car before May this year. What do you guys think? |

Tough on mate as your best BMW option is a 335 really, if you're crossing to Europe quite often then your big petrol options mentioned will bankrupt you!(lets be honest you won't be keeping a steady throttle in a 6.3L car!)

For £20k you can get an M5 touring or a nice clean low miles E91 335i and have some money left over for fuel.
I have one and I love that car, with 306hp is quick enough to have fun and yet a great cruiser on long distances. The problem is to find one then finding the spec or colour you want. £20k isn't enough to buy a decent big boy like an M5, you can get one but will be high mileage. If you end up looking for a 335i let me know I could be tempted selling mine if the price is right. Good luck |

Never been in an rs6, but a good friend of mine let me take his c63 out for a burn, it was a saloon, have to say its got a great sound to it and great in a straight line, but in terms of handling it was very poor, my previous e90 320d handled better so could only imaging the estate to handle slightly worse. Also done a quarter of a tank in about 10 minutes.
20k you could get a late lci e91 335d simple remap and you will see nearly 350bhp and get good mpg still. The e61 shape is looking quite dated now as the f10 has been out nearly 6 years.

I have driven the c63 and it's a car you can take in small amounts. I had it for a few days and it nearly killed me in many ways. Fuel was one, even in a good run I was getting 20mpg. Then the handling, was good but on the limit you had to be careful. I only driven the new rs6 and wasn't that impressed, very fast but that was it.
Maybe an rs4 could be a good option over a BMW. The biggest thing to think about are the running costs, yes you can have it for £20k but still a £70k car to run. I think a 335i/d are a very good blend. |
