After about a week I decided against the chrome and I got a brushed alu unit on ebay for £45. I'm swapping the dials tonight.

My volume knobs are chrome but are so small the chrome isn't irritating, on the climate dials the chrome was more bling that I fancy personally. The brushed alu will hopefully make me happy, but people like us are never 100% happy with our cars, which is why we are always doing something else to them

I think the chrome dials are standard on 6-cylinder cars. Certainly, my 2007 335i has them too.

Oh - maybe it's an E92 6-cylinder thing then...

you are better off opening the unit and replacing the board inside as the climate panel is linked to your pollen filter service so if you put a different panel in it throws your service schedule out and can t be reset either by you or the dealers.

its really a 5 min job in total.
I kept my old panel with the board swapped so i could put back standard if i ever sold my car which i do on a regular basis
I had exactly this issue with mine - swapped over the panel threw my pollen filter service reminder out. So in the end swapped over the internals of my old panel to the new one. It really is quite simple takes about 15 mins taking your time and you only need a trim removal tool (or screwdriver wrapped in cloth) to get the unit out of the dash safely and a small flat head screwdriver to prise the unit apart.

I've now got brushed alu dials, chrome dials and black dials.

Alu is to stay, black will be kept till car sale time and chrome is going back to the seller as the unit is faulty!

Swapped to silver and looking good! Managed to bend one of the clips on the climate fascia getting it out, it's a dog of a job to remove! Time to look for a replacement fascia!
