Hankook Ventus V12s...exploded!

Just my luck, back in august of 2012 i purchased some Hankook Ventus V12s for the rear wheels of my car. I bought them and installed at Family Tire here in south florida.

As my front tires are wearing down i decided to purchase some Ventus V12s for the front wheels. Today the front wheels came in, and i put them in the car. I am on my way to the tire shop to get them mounted and thats when my tire blew!

At first i thought, no big deal front tires are worn anyways thats why i got brand new tires in the backseat! But unfortunately it was the rear tire.....and i dont even know what happened....

Pictures attached.

Holy shit. I don't get how a tire can just spontaneously explode like that especially when they're relatively new. Was it some weird gash/puncture from rolling over something? What psi were they inflated to, and what is that black stuff? And how's the other rear tire faring?

Sorry about your troubles man, hope the car/rims weren't damaged otherwise.

On the way to the tire shop and your tire blew? That's rough..

Black stuff is rubber dust from it being driven on while deflated.

As VMR said above you have been driving in a deflated tire for a while that's probably the reason you blew it out. How often do you check your tire pressure

not often because i have TPMS. So the dust comes from driving on the tire while deflated? i thought it came from the tire when it blew....good to know.

Like the above posters said. This damage is caused from driving on a underinflated tire. The black "dust" is the sidewall shredding and melting due to overheating.

I don't trust those things as it is you never know I alwasu check my pressure and obviously something failed because 100% he was driving on a tire with low air pressure

We actually had a couple customers have issues with the Hankooks. They could possible have had under inflated tires, but for one guy, the entire tread separated from the tire. I have to admit that we do get the most complaints about the Hankooks. Most of our customers tell us that they don't live up to the reviews online.

Tires are a personal thing, what could be gold for some may be garbage to others. Only thing you can do is try them, if you don't like them, sell them and buy something else.

I like the Hankook Ventus V12 with the exception of its very soft sidewalls. After having them for about six months or so I developed quite a few bubbles in the inner sidewall.
