"Stupid question, but whatever.
What is this cradle thingy for? I got one in my car, I don't have iDrive, and I also dont have the OEM HU. Is it of any use for me?
I'm planning to throw it out and replace it with the storage tray, for more storage and a place to put AUX and USB in plugs."

i've got the storage bin that i'd gladly trade you for it !

Well.. I bought my fbas cables today. Had to place an order anyway since I've bought some vibe 4 speakers, DLS r4's, earthquakes and a ms-8 .. May as well finish my fbas!!

So.. I run 2 wires from those solder points to the black plug on the snap in..or so I simply run those 2 wires to the back of my head unit video in?

ah damn looks like the wrong eject box for video.

its part number :

84109158069 which is listed as 6NF Base plate

Are you saying that 84109158069 is the part number that *doesn't* support video?

I have the cradle...never bothered to buy the connector for the phone. I tend to upgrade phones when they come out.

I have to say that the car forums I have been on for years: e46, Subaru,e90, etc...there are some of the sharpest people I have ever come across. Engineers...damn good work.

OP, I am impressed that you put this together!

yes dracon, that one doesn't support video unless you modify it like I have done...

Yeah, I thought so. I dug around ETK and found there was a part number change 03/2011 (which BMW Apps was released) and figured that they changed the baseplate to support video with 6NR and that earlier revisions wouldn't have the right pins for it.

So I wound up ordering 84109239396 which is the baseplate revision for 03/11 and up.

hey jesse , just woke up from my winter hibernation lol.....yes you can run them either to the black plug on the snap in. (I would do it that way) or straight to headunit....

personly though , I would run it to the black connector on the base plate , just in case you have to change anything in the future....but either will work

Hey Chris,

Do you know what pin 16 is for on the plug? I have 2 5 14 16 on my plug (like yours) and 2 3 4 5 6 7 11 12 15 on my baseplate connector.

I know 11 on the baseplate connector isn't used (AUX Shield).

14 on the plug is the charge signal (but my baseplate doesn't have that pin)

I just don't know what pin 16 is for on the plug.

hi there, not sure what pin 16 is for. I didn't use it. if I remember correctly the only pins I left in the connector was ground and 12v. (pin 2 + 5) I then used my home made loom for the audio and video connections as I didn't want to pay £1 a pin plus I already had to modify the baseplate for video.

it could be something to do with power switching for the cars phone antenna. The snapin in I had didn't have this any way. so no loss really

I wander if they changed the snap in to switch on either with usb or when the phone is inserted.....

I found the wiring diagram for the TCU in ISTA/D. Pin 14 is CRADLE_O and Pin 16 is CRADLE_K

I'm assuming CRADLE_O is cradle on, but I'm not sure what CRADLE_K is for.

I bringing back to live this thread, but I would like to retrofit snapin.
I have e91 lci 2009 with CIC and retrofited Combox.
Im interesting mainly about video playback on my CIC from iphone as well as have beter signal and use external antena.

what exactly I need?
Do I need bmw apps 6NR activated (FSC)?
which snap in should I order?
theres lot of 84109160935 on ebay. and 84109158069 not support video right?
so this is correct one?
than I need iphone adapter 84212289715?
what about antena?

Thanks

I see you wired the snapin cradle for video playback on CIC. But I can't view your youtube video due to the limitation. So I have a question:

You play the video on Iphone and it displays on CIC screen or you use the Ipod interface on CIC to view the video?

I'm planning to do the same as you. My bim is E90 320i LCI, CIC with combox

This only works with the iphone 4 and 4s i think as apple switched to the lightening cable....

i cant even reclaim the video as youtube deleted it, ive looked and cant find a copy of it.....

The video is played by going into the cic menu or once in the cic video menu, you can select video on iphone itself....

there were different ways of achieving this, with the snapin adapter and without the snapin adapter.....its been a few years since i did mine...

It worked for me with 6nf base plate, snap in and IP 4/4s

Your diagram doesn't need the expensive snap in, but you can't charge your phone, right? And is the video full screen? No black border at 4 sides?

this is what i first used before i added the snapin adapter....

it works exactley the same way as the snapin and should still charge the phone...

the usb from the combox goes straight to the snapin , where as above just goes to a usb connector instead...

the video output was bugged by apple (what i read anyway) which causes boarders to appear top and bottom and left and right, i did use a jailbreak app to make it full screen all the time but still had boarders left and right...

i reset my iphone back to factory as it stopped working with the snapin for some reason.....and now still get the boarders unless i press the iphone icon to make it fit full screen...

The same as mine, we can make it full screen with jaibreak app, except left and right. It may be apple video output issue, not the CIC.

Did you try your IP and apple composite av cable with TV screen to check if it was full screen?

Feed audio to aux in and composite video straight to CCC. Then code in TV function. Add any media player of your choice. Roku has a composite out and with a hotspot it's bad ass.

Didn’t think it worked like that as if you code in tv function it searches for the tv module in your car and if it doesn’t find it , the tv option is greyed out and not usable.

It depends which of the 4 modules you chose in coding. There are two modules of the four that CIC can use. The difference is NTSC or PAL. You are correct that their are MOST modules the other two parameters look for. I am almost positive the CCC is the same. There are (4) video ports in a CIC and (1)in CCC.
