Alpina B3 Twin turbo vid/specs

(Posted by DrewKo on photo/video forum)

He does mention that they changed the pistons for 9.4:1 CR with 1.1 bar (16.17 psi) boost. Only 360 hp, obviously at the crank? N mention of LSD. I'm not too impressed. I guess the lower compression allowed to run the 1.1 bar on pump gas, but really didn't do much for overall power gains.

What do yall think?

Did they change the turbos? I sure hope they did change it because the stock twins will be useless at those boost levels.

They must have changed the turbos to be running at that high of a psi.

Weird tho also they only got 360 crank hp from it.

They didn't mention it, so I doubt they did. They can generate power at that boost level at less than peak RPM with the stock turbos, but they will not be able to sustain it as the RPMs climb. Kind of like what Shiv does with the PROcede and will likely do with 100 octane map.

You can see on Alpina's dyno, they dont make any more peak HP after 5K, but they do sustain it.

my guess is they didnt and are just pushing those stock turbos beyond their limit and just blowing hot air.... that is why they are only making 30chp over stock..

Only 30chp more, and with the stock exhaust replaced?! Also 16psi over 8.5 psi doesn't sound right for the resulting HP. Makes me seriously wonder if they found something in testing all of their N54s that made them go so conservative. I hope it was to keep the stock transmission. Wonder what Dinan will be able to do?

Ya the interior looks like shit, esp on a blue car. Only thing that nice about it is the delimited govoner.

If I'm not mistaken once you lower compression don't you lose HP and need more boost to make up for it?

Yes. But, I think that their point is that Alpina increased the boost to 16psi. That is a ~60% increase over stock. I would think that a boost increase of that size would yield more power than 60hp. It is probably a sign that our turbos are close to being maxed out already (in terms of flow).

Shiv only increases the boost to 11-12 (only a couple of psi more than stock) and picks up about the same or more power.

correct... usualy the only time your lowering compression is on a turbo car so your able to run more boost, etc...

Not exactly... all he is doing is over boosting the shit out of the stock turbos which in reality he is probably loosing power.... not to mention what he they did with all the other settings as well.... timing, fuel..etc but it didnt say anything about that.

16psi on a small turbos with out a proper tune will do nothing.

also Shiv mad WAY more power... . remember these guys made 360 Crank power....Shiv is almost making 360 Wheel power.....huge difference!
