Any of you budding home DJ's or even play out from time to time?

Nice will have a listen
Used to dj acid and funky house in 90s to early 2000. Don't make it like that anymore, especially them raves at entropy / the void and shellys Last edited by briers; 11-17-2012 at 06:02 PM.. |

Here are some of mine.
http://www.mixcloud.com/xs2man/ Set-up for these mixes was a pair of cdj 350's, a pair of 1210's and a DJM 800. Sold the CDJ's and DJM now though, just about to invest in a DJM 900 or A&H DB2 I think. And use Traktor Scratch for MP3. Will upgrade to CDJ 2000's next year. |

Just listened to your mixes - wow it's moved on so much. It's like party or progressive electro house now. There is no r&b gospel funk influence any more.
I think they just commercialised everything about 6 or 7 years ago. I think it's just this generation. I remember when the shamen and blackbox had songs in the top 10 charts. Happy Mondays, prodigy etc - we get nothing like that these days. |

Here is my soundcloud page.
I tend to like stuff that has an early 90s influence, so all you old fuckers may like it. Haha http://soundcloud.com/guymiddleton |

Guys (gIzzE) stuff is excellent and my iPod has a decent amount of memory dedicated to his stuff. In fact, driving for 5 hrs today overall, so am excellent opportunity to reacquaint myself . Might see if I can hit the heady mid-20's mpg . Much new stuff Guy - not checked for a while.
Will have a listen to the other stuff posted soon.

Thanks mate. Sea Air and Emotion are both new.
I tend to add something new once every 2 - 4 weeks I guess. I have just found a mix I did of Bedrock's - Underground Sound Of Miami so I will upload that later, really like the tunes on that release, it was a sort of 10 track EP. Sort of Funky techno. |

Forest is my favourite mix that I have done, some others I have liked more, but Forest is the one I still listen to a lot. More laid back, but just love the flow and every track on there. Normally regret one or two tracks after a while, but still love every track on that. |

Currently using an Allen & Heath Xone: DX with Serato itch.
Closest controller, well software, to a pair of CDJs at the time. Pioneers Rekordbox was based on Sarato itch, and it was the simplest software based set up. I had a VCI100 with Traktor but it didn't feel raw enough for me, to software based, but the latest Tracktor is better, if you have the right controller. I did the Silicone Soul mix using ableton, great software, and great for doing studio type mixes, but wouldn't want to play out with it, all a bit clinical. Pioneer have a new controller for using with the latest Serato, so may have a go with that, not read up much on it though. I love the CDJ2000s but too expensive, see there is a new all in one Pioneer unit that does talk to Rekordbox now, so will look into that as well. To be fair though I just like finding music that I like and putting mixes together, I am 39 now, if I was still in my 20's and partying every weekend I would have some 2000's, but I am putting mixes together that let me listen to the tunes I have bought, so the mixing these days is a means to an end, I don't get off on just playing my tunes for hours on end like I used to. Half the challange back then was managing a full 45mins of a tape side with perfectly matched beats, always the last mix of the set that let you down and so you started again, ever more the perfectionist! |

There are two very different sorts of EDM (as the Americans call it) around now. There is all the commercial stuff, that people like Guetta, Deadmau5, Afrojack, Skrillex, and what they do they do well, but it is very different. For many, seeing them is all about hearing the tunes they are known for, same way you go to a concert you want to here all the classics. But you also have the 'underground' scene, all about finding rare gems and finding new stuff every week, this is what it was like when we all went to raves and clubs, it was all about hearing something new, something completely different. There is a still that scene out there, but look at where Sasha and Digweed etc. are now on the DJ lists, 90 and 120 or something. The youngsters just want a different sound. The two both happen to be dance music, just that one is almost the current 'pop music' that will probably drift away in a few years. |

Yeah I dabble here and there. Sold my Pioneer CDJ 900s and haven't got them replaced yet but plan to do with some old school vinyl TT and serato (which I've always wanted from day one) so will be uploading a vid of somesort in the near future.. nice to have a small community within a community!

Then last year bought a DJM 800. Nice bit of kit. Bought it for the effects and the fact it was the club standard (before the 900). Was going to upgrade to the 900, but after looking at a few reviews, decided it wasn't enough of an upgrade. Plus the DJM effects are a little "hard". As in, you know when they are used. The A&H effects have a LOT more control over them, and are studio quality, so should be more subtle. Plus with the DB4, the input matrix means you can have your one source playing over all 4 channels, and each channel can utilise a different effect (unlike the Pioneer only having one effect bank, to be applied to one channel). AND a separate loop facility per channel too. Lots more control. BUT, I'm now missing my CDJ's to afford the upgrade, and the DB4 aint scratch certified, so gonna have to use a hacked copy of Traktor to use my 1210's as part of a DVS. Booooooooo. |

Just tried to upload a new set the soundlcoud and it isn't going through.
Obviously one of the tracks on there is infringing copyright, but not a clue which one. |
