If my son asked my brother to cover for him for breaking the law, he would kick his a$$. We raise the children in our family collectively.

he didnt encourage him to make that mistake...he said he would pay for the ticket as soon as the tints were removed..."kicking his ass" would have created a disliking towards my father, and not remedied the situation...at all...

The original post said the cousin asked the uncle to pay the ticket so he didn't have to tell his dad. My point is that a family has a responsibility to take care of the youth not hide thier mistakes from their parents. That is not helping, it is undermining a parents authority. I will help any of my nephews or nieces but I would not lie to my brother or sister to do it.

two things:

1.) kicking his ass is being responsible and taking care of the youth?

2.) what would his father do? make him remove the tints? my dad did that...so not only did he watch out for his nephew, he also took the burden of paying a ticket so my uncle didnt have to.

1. Kicking his ass was a metaphore for tough discipline, which your cousin clearly needs because he is hiding the ticket from his father. Which is the same as lying to him. And yes some children do need spankings every now and then. Adults primary role in raising children are not just to be friends it is to guide and mold them to be self sufficient, responisible, and productive members of society. Teaching a son to lie or hide things from his father is not responsible.

2. His father would have the opportunity handle the situation. I can assure you that when you have children you will not appreciate anyone interfering with how you raise your children if it is not according to the guidelines that you set.
