3 series Gran Turismo...
Got brochure for this sent to me in post today....have to say my immediate reaction was "why?"....surely its not going to offer much over the existing saloon and touring?? Can't see the boot being big enough...
I guess its just so they can have a competitor to A5 S/back....

A5 looks 100% better from every angle. It must have appealed to some sort of market area to put it into production.
Did they not learn their lesson from the 5GT that bombed in the UK |

I hate the look of the 5 GT, but am really liking the 3GT, built on the Chinese 3 series saloon floor pan evidently so bigger than the normal saloon and touring...

I agree with Gizzie, it's much more in proportion than the ungainly 5GT. I think the 3GT is a decent looking car and will be a success for BMW. I would buy one over a saloon if I was in the market for this size of car.

How can you say it is pointless? It is a 5 series* hatchback really, far more use than a saloon or a coupe, so hardly pointless. If you don't like the looks fair enough, but to me it makes the saloon the pointless one. *It is 5 sereis size rather the 3 series, same as the 5GT is a 7 series hatch. |

It certainly isn't pointless and some of the people saying that now because they have no kids or family to move around are currently quite happy with their coupes. However as circumstances change its point may become more obvious.
I am certainly very keen to see this car in the flesh as I would not consider a saloon, touring perhaps but this may be a decent alternative and especially if it is bigger it may be a great choice. |

This is waaaaaay better looking than the 5GT (which apparently is a fantastic car if you can get over the looks) but just hope the photos BMW have released are just the overly flattering one & it looks equally as good in the flesh. The 5GT looked a gorgeous place to sit so if the 3GT is as upmarket too then it could well be a real winner.

I'd like it if they made a M3 version as I need the space and they say it is as big or bigger than the E91. I would have a bought a E91 M3 if the had made one.

I had a sit in one last week, as all the car companies visited my firm to try and persuade company car drivers to order their cars.
I was quite impressed. The spaciousness of the boot, and the amount of room in the rear seat was a massive improvement over the saloon. I think they must use a longer wheelbase, as the rear was cavernous. it felt like about 4" more legroom than an e90 saloon. |

Did you see if the rear seats slide forward??
On the 5GT you can slide them forward 4", with them forward it is 5 series legroom and with them back it is just over 7 series legroom. Means you can go from complete comfort to cavernous (bigger than the 5er touring) boot in 10 seconds. I wished they would slide forward another 2" as often it is kids in the back and that still gives more room than a 3 series and E Class boot space. |

Anyway, I have to agree, I was really impressed with it, boot space and rear leg were very impressive, I also quite like the frameless doors. must admit I didn't check if the rear seats moved. |

OK, so now I know its based on a different floorpan.....I'm willing to be convinced!!
Definitely looks better than the 5GT (not hard). Might actually be the car to get me back in a BMW, but it will be a while... Funny how BMW have reinvented the Renault 16/Austin Maxi......!!!!

On my travels I have sat in a 3 series GT. I think its a very attractive car in flesh. What engine options are they offering in the UK? I tried playing the online conjuration game but unfortunately it only lists 320d Sport at the moment.
