Did anyone see my post and have any advice? It's easy to get lost in this massive thread. I may start a new one.

Anyone know a good North Houston / The Woodlands detail shop. This rain messed it up and due to water restrictions I can't really detail it in time.

Anybody knows a honest bmw dealership with a honest service assistant?
At BMW midtown they wanted to charge me 3.5 hours for installation of the power kit special when the bulletin suggests 45 minutes.

go to BMW North and talk to Rader. He's a young guy about my age and is very down to earth. Acts more as a friend to you then an Employee of the dealership.

Also - A friend of mine is an actual tech at BMW North, and may work something out with you on the side. Only thing is he only does OEM work no mods. If its an OEM kit he should be able to do it though.

If you just talk to the SA though and go thru the proper channels you can still request my friend to be the tech on your car. This way, you'll be able to talk to the actual mechanic during/after the job instead of an SA who may/may not know wtf he's talking about.

I use a former Certified BMW tech who now freelances. He charges a 1/3 of the price of what you'd pay at the dealer. He quit working for them because he couldn't stand what they do to people. An example that he told me about about that sticks in my mind was how they'll be working on a car and discover another item that needs to be fixed. What ends up taking 3 minutes to repair, since they're already in there anyway, they'll charge another 3 hours for. He said it happens every day.

Also - if a tech finds something wrong with the car - they are NOT allowed to fix it unless it is related to a complaint or inquiry made by the Customer to the SA. Like if your car is leaking oil and they see it, the Tech won't fix it unless u specifically told the SA your car is leaking oil. What a joke right?

I believe you.
Months ago they wanted to charge me $235 to retrofit the alarm (only coding, I had already installed the parts). 10 minutes coding done by myself.

Thank you, I will definitely get in contact with him, as soon as I have the bulletin number, so that he knows what I'm talking about.

Just to clarify what I said. They do follow that protocol - where they call the customer first. But instead of just fixing it with free labor, out of goodwill if it's something simple, or charging them for the 1/4 hour it took to switch out a part, they bend the guy over for the entire published rate.

I just texted the certified tech lets see what he says about doing it on the side.

**EDIT**

Also - have you already purchased it? I know ppl like OEM and all but 599 seems a little steep for a measly 20hp dont ya think? I would rather spend 100 bucks more and get the COBB AP. Don't have to open the ECU box, and you can flash back to the stock map in less than 2 minutes. With COBB AP you'll gain like 80whp. I'm sure Litos is lurking around somewhere he has it on his E90 and can give you the scoop.

Just my .02 cents

any of you guys know a shop in houston that has experience with installing a CSL trunk? theyll need to be able to drill holes and modify it so the mechanics from the OEM trunk would go into the new one.

So far I don't think any of us have found a CHEAP body shop.

Another member is looking for install of a trunk lid as well...

What kind of CSL did you get? I have a Duke Dynamics CSL on the way....Metro Collision wants like $1300 to install and paint. I'm thinking of just having them paint it and then some of us installing it. I am sure I can find a DIY somewhere or if not, then write one....

Thanks for the help!
I would never do anything on the engine if not oem, actually I've never thought on doing any tune, but now.. I know it's quite expansive, but I'm fine with that.

Michele, it's a great option for those wanting OEM everything. I'd do it without a second thought if I didn't want aftermarket lessening the life of my car.
