Maximum capacity of a flash drive using 6FL?

What is the maximum capacity of a USB flash drive with the factory usb/iPod hookup. There are 64gb drives for under $200 and I'm thinking about getting one.

I have a 2009 e92 w/ iDrive on order -- ED 10/29.

Thanks

Garage List
I've seen posts by people using hard drives over 100GB before. So I would think a 64GB flash drive would be fine. Personally, I'm using a 32GB one and it's fine.

Interesting, according to the pdf I saw, the system will not support fixed disk drives.

Many people have been using hardrives just fine with the 6FL option through the USB port. You may just have to find an alternate power source for the disc though, rather than powering the unit through the USB port.

Another question, is there a limit to how many directories or files you can have?

I personally have not had a problem yet in this regard actually, and I have alot of songs and have tried many forms of storage.

The factory system (for example, from a USB drive) will read the information tags of the music, and just like the IPOD, it will allow you to browse by genre, album, artist and so on. You can also organize your songs however you like and make folders to create playlists.

The IPOD IMO is the easiest solution with the 6FL option, but, if you're and SQ junkie like me, you will be able to tell that the USB drive sounds a little better than the Ipod since the decoding of the file is being done by the HU, rather than the IPOD. Also, with a USB drive, there is no mini-plug used anymore to further degrade SQ.

It does, at least some drives. It seems the USB port does not provide a whole lot of current though, so some drives fail to spin up. I have an 80GB Iomega USB powered drive that works great, and it fits perfectly into the ipod case under the arm rest.

If you go the hard drive route, try to get a 4200rpm drive. They require less power to spin up.
