Look guys - its obvious I'm dealing with the forum heavyweights here - but it wasn't a deliberate mistake on part, which is why I reacted. The info didn't come from sales as such either, it was an emailed document my technical contact at a UK BMW dealer sent me which had come to him, before he later told me about 6FL.

Anyway, how about we forget it and may be you can give some thought to one of my previous questions - does iPod video work through the new interface. I know you can get the kit found at the following link but does 6FL superceed it?

http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...7d7308b7648d3b

P.S. for LEDZEP - you ever heard of Priory of Brion? They are fronted by Plant. Saw them play a few years ago in a small UK club and he was touching distance away. Awesome performance. He also played a free music festival in the UK a couple of years ago and played some Zep. Finished with Whole Lotta Love! I didn't have Knebworth but at least I got that!

Sorry to report that the answer is no. Only music and meta info are supported through the iPod/USB (6FL) option.

There was a woman nearby walking, and she recognized him and said something to him in German... and he replied to her in German. I have ancestorage there, but don't know the language. That was in the Terminator 2 days, and he was in amazing shape!

I'd love to do Euro delivery one day... everytime I hear the stories and see the pictures, it seems like such fun.

Hmmm.... don't know about that iPod product. It looks like a third party aftermarket thing. Also, there were some that were pre-E90. My advice is twofold: If at all possible have the 6FL added to the factory order. If that cannot be done, then you could either have the dealer install the iPod MOST interface or perhaps get an aftermarket product. Jonathan is the expert on this, so I will defer.

As for Plant... no, I'd not heard of that band (interesting name though). Excellent that you saw him in a small venue like that!

iPhone & 6FL

So, after reading this entire thread and especially the information from cisoid, it seems to me that the 6FL option may very well be the perfect interface for the upcoming iPhone.

I currently have the dealer installed MOST bus interface (just got it this past week) and have experienced all the issues posted ad nauseum here and in other forums. To say the least, I am displeased. Since I intend to get the iPhone the instant it is released, I am concerned about my current adapter as it takes over the iPod interface. I suspect that doing so might very well lock you out of the iPhone interface in general (including non-iPod functions).
To that end, since the 6Fl usb option is merely serial control and a metadata conduit that does not take over the interface and relies on the iPod for functions such as shuffle, it should work perfectly with the iPhone, allowing use of non-iPod functions while still controlling and playing music in the background.

I originally purchased my e90 specifically on the promise of full iPod integration just around the corner. Yes, I bought a car for my iPod. I'm not ashamed to admit that.

So, now, with 2 years on my lease remaining and a sub-standard interface in my glove box, I wish I were in a position to buy this year (yes, I know, I could try to sell the lease through swapalease or something, but I'm over my mileage allowance making it unappealing).

I look forward with envy at hearing reports as the new cars start to arrive.

The kit referenced in the link isn't even compatible with MOST cars so it is not really helpful to you in your quest for video.

...and I am looking forward to providing a report! I will be among the first to have a E90 with 6FL, since my car was completed March 2. By early to mid April, I'm sure this forum will be abuzz with reviews and reports of its functionality - and all positive I hope!

P.S. Welcome to E90Post!

Same here. This will be my first BMW so I don´t know much about the dealer installed version, but is it that bad?

Nein, it is really really good. I have had it since last June and it's fantastic.

Well, it's nice in that it puts the iPod in the glove box where I can lock it up when valet parking. Also that it uses the docking interface. Beyond that, yes.

I was considering writing this up as an open letter to BMW... oh, why not? Here, I'm starting a new thread specifically to detail the stunning failure of the MOST bus iPod interface as I see it:

Anyone know where the iPod goes with the 6FL? Does it stay in the glove box like the dealer adapter or does it go some other place?

Armrest. Uses USB and Aux connectors there.

With 6FL the iPod is located in the center armrest console. The provided adaptor cable uses both the AUX input and the USB connection. This supplies the power for charging, audio to the stereo, and functionality.

Not relevant to 6FL but for info here is a thread from BenMW - who has got iPod video to work through the SatNav screen on an e92....

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46298

Didn't sound straightforward though!

No, rather convoluted. But good to keep in mind it's doable (somehow) - although not with any standard BMW parts.

The 6FL option and HD radio are finally on the BMWUSA.com website as selectable options. Albeit with no images...
