Late E-Series N55 MEVD1726 DME Removal/Benchflash Guide

With MHD officially out of beta for (2012+) late E-Series cars, more people want to unlock their ECU's. I have attached a guide I made on how to remove the DME in order to ship it off to be unlocked for those in remote locations or for those who'd rather turn their own wrench.

ECU Removal:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing
Benchflash:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

Please feel free to point out any errors or suggest changes.

Good guide. I tape over the intake ports whilst the intake manifold is off.

Took a while but finally got around to it.

I listed that as a step but forgot to take a picture of it.

I will update this thread with another guide on how to do the actual bench flash later.

Please feel free to point out any errors or suggest changes.
Looking forward to the post of how to bench flash and unlock the DME. I want to do this. Thanks!

Main points on opening are to use a blade with an exposed length that will only just cut through the sealant and not hit components. I also put mine in the oven at 100C for 15 minutes first. Avoid static by grounding yourself and the ECU at least briefly before connecting the boot pin if like me you use an actual pin and grips on the table so you are effectively touching the boot pin. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1264155

N54 guy over here seeing this thread for the first time...what? Is your DME no longer in the cowl on the passengers side? But instead it's under the intake manifold?

Interesting seeing such a change. Just out of curiosity, what is over there under the passenger side cowl on the N55 if not the DME box?

Yes, all N55 DMEs are under the intake manifold. There is a heat sink in the manifold to help keep the DME cool. The box under the cowl is still there, just has a few wires and fueses.

Should be done next weekend. Sorry for the delay, I've been out of town.

Sorry for the delay, but I finally updated the OP with the Benchflash Guide. Still a work in progress so don't be afraid to suggest changes. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Has anyone that has done this run into issues after bench flashing the DME? I have 4 codes that I cannot clear and the half engine light. Looking up code descriptions isn't always easy but from what I found most seems to relate to throttle valve.

Did you remember to plug the throttle body back in?

Remember to clear codes on the DME before trying to start it for the first time. I didn't and the car ran like dog shit, couldn't idle, loud as hell (wastegate wide open). The code was 36FD "DME main relay, plausibility: prematurely dropped out". After clearing it ran perfectly fine.

I was positive I deleted my post. Yes the throttle body wasn't plugged in.

Go on RealOEM and make sure the ecu part number matches an e92 335 from 2011-2012.

Not for the 2012-2013 E series N55's. Unlock is still required.
