Hey guys, new to the e90 world. I have a question, when I first start and drive the car in the mornings (read cold), the acceleration of the car seems slow, after ~5 minutes the car really picks up. Is there some kind of electronic spark control on these cars, that doesn't allow the car to go at full acceleration at WOT when cold?

Maybe the car performs better when the oil is warmed up? No clue about the electronic control

never rev over 3k within first 5 min , but under 3k seems normal.

but its kinda mad WOT when engine is cold, its one of best way to destroy it

Your engine isn't warmed up and it's a good idea to keep the RPMs under 3-4k until it's warm.

What I am asking is does this car retard the engine when cold (electronically?)?

I think yes, but probably not to restrict the performance but for emission.

I found that when the car is on a cold start, it revs a lot higher with little pressure on the throttle.

I don't know if is really necessary to do a motion like we drive a early 90's...I do usually still start engine and let it warms up for like 2 mins (probably) before I drive~

^ but I let mine warm up for 10-15 minuets. Haha I hate driving in a cold car

It doesn't really have to be warmed up to drive. What it does need is to be up to operating temperature before you get your foot into it.

I have noticed this too. The only thing I can think of is that the oil is more viscous when it is cold causing more drag on the internal components of the engine, thus reducing power levels.

The car is likely pulling timing until it warms up.

I let my car warm up if I don't have to just leave, but there are times where I start it and go. Never above 3k until oil is warmed though.
