Yes! Had a motobike licence for some years now.
Makes you very much aware of road surfaces and how they change sooo much depending on weather conditions and of course oil, mud, leaves on bends, ice etc. A motobike in good weather is a fantastic experience, a real feeling of speed, a good feel of the countryside, the night air of a summer evening etc etc. Happy days! But motorbiking at times can be very hairy indeed. Have come off a few times due to slippery road surfaces, fortunatly at low speed with not much traffic about and with no injury. For motorbiking you have got to have luck on your side. Think I will stick with cars! |

I agree that having a Bike will make the majority of car drivers far more aware of their surroundings when diving to 'survive''.
BUT there are poor car drivers.. and there are poor bike riders. A guy who I used to work with, a piss poor driver. Crashed a RWD 120HP car because he lacked so much talent behind the wheel it was amazing. He now has a litre bike, does track days. No doubt he has improved. You can improve for sure with tuition and more experience. He is still a talentless twat behind the wheel/handle bars. I don't own a bike, I have raced karts since a child though. Driving at the age of 8. Racing in a tight pack within inches of each other teaches you not only about control of a vehicle in different conditions but makes you so aware of whats going on around you its unreal. Reactions of a scalded cat. I'd like to race a Bike, but not to use one on the road. To easy to go TOOO hard all the time. Far too many muppets on the road trying to kill you.

Oh Yes.
Great fun! Not done any off roading since I was a lad, and just got back into it last year. The CRF is more competent than I am, but it's a good learning curve. Fallen off more times in the last six months than in the previous 40 years of riding, but with less injuries and less damage to bike or rider. Unfortunately, there's not many lanes around here in North Shropshire, so I trail it round a bit. Go out with a few lads from South Shropshire and into Wales. Some awesome scenery, if only I could concentrate on it, rather than looking where I am supposed to be going. |

Full license. Ridden a number of different bikes but only owned 1 which was a metallic blue ZX6R Ninja. It was modified too and was awesome on the road.
I don't believe CBT should be mandatory before sitting car driving test. CBT does not prepare motorcyclists fully for the road. Standard DSA car test is not fit-for-purpose and is in urgent need of updating. Driving on rural B roads (where most young males have crashes) is not even included! |

Funnily enough I was nearly taken out by some twat in a blue E90 today who swerved at me while trying to hold his mobile phone.
Otherwise it was cracking weather for a ride.. |

i do have both, and i agree riding a bike on road makes you very aware of certain things you take for granted in car. noy used bike on road for years though, just too many bad drivers spoiling the thrill of the bike.

Yup. Passed my bike test back in 1992. Have run out of takent a couple of times and been lucky not to do too much damage to myself. Love my bike, and the car would definitely go before the bike!

Had a DRZ in Spain when I was off-roading with guys from work. The day after absolutely torrential rain - so much so that some of the guys didn't ride that day. The DRZ was absolutely perfect for the conditions - lots of torque, easy to steer, I could plant it where I wanted it, comfortable. Climb anything on any surface. Not ultimately quick, but I didn't want that. Riding it was the best day of the trip. I'd been on a CRF 450 otherwise, which was really too much for my ability!!
