help ... clear coat questions

I got alot of problems with my car after a 10 day vacation.....
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63849

so I washed my car today since service are close on Sundays and I realize that there are 3 spots that is missing the clear coat...prbly from bird waste.
I cant beleive this could happen in only 10 days.

Can I buy one of those touch-up clear coat pens and fix the problem?

not sure I'll buy another bmw after this experience

Sorry to hear of your experience Ska. Is it possible to post some pictures of the problem clearcoat areas? Many here can make a fairly good assessment from pix.

As far as the DSC etc. malfunction I have to think your service department can make a quick repair for that. Out of curiosity, what were the storage conditions during the 10 day idle period?

that would be very very odd if the clear coat is gone......bird waste is acidic and would leave spots like acid rain does once cleaned off but i highly doubt it would be able to breakdown the clear coat. are you sure the clear coat is actually gone? if it is gone then when you rub the spots the paint will rub off onto whatever your rubbing it with. if you can post pictures that would help. the clearcoat pens are difficult to deal with i hear and it is hard to get good results....

I left my car outside (not garaged).....when I came back, bird shit everywhere

Could it be that it just penetrated the sealant (SG) that I used for my car?

I'll try to take pics

Unfortunately you are at the mercy of what the bird ate for the day and how acidic it is, among other factors. I've seen bird droppings etch the paint in minutes, no matter what kind of protection you have on the paint. I've also seen bird droppings sit for months and remove no problem, it seems to be the luck of the draw.

i have the same problem. It does NOT come off after a clay bar either. It looks horrible. I believe the paint such and especially all that orange peel.

My other cars never had this issue, and I used to never wash my cars, and this one I wash every 2 weeks and I get this

Do you have the resources to buff that area with a machine and some polish? I would try to buff back some shiny clearcoat in case it is still there. That looks exactly like an area I might have wetsanded and would then buff it back to shine. Is that the size of a bird bomb? It looks big for a bird bomb but some birds can do it that big.
