Does anyone have any experience with this car?
After winning some new contracts for my company my mileage has shot through the roof. and im filling up 3 times per week So im looking a a more economical car that still has a little ooommph Although i don't really like the 1 series, the engine in the coupe body, seems the best compromise for economy/speed etc/acceptable extoerior. or i could get a golf gtd???? Ive had a 335d and dont want another as i only managed 26mpg and im looking at 40+ Steve.

The noise will annoy you but it's a decent car.
Had a slower 120d M Sport (hatch shape not coupe) loaner for a couple of days and was pretty impressed. Nice handling, pretty nippy, well made. Interior is a notch down from a 3er though. They seem to use flock wallpaper on the door panels... |

I had a E92 330d auto remapped to circa 300bhp - got 38mpg
Then had a 118d manual remapped to circa 180bhp - got 46mpg Other than for the sublime chassis of the 1 series, I wouldn't have bothered if I'd have realised that the MPG difference was so small |

lots of 123d vs 130i discussions on www.babybmw.net. I owned a 130i and it was a great car. The 123d is very much like it but with good mpg.
Get it tuned and your away! you could just get a 320d though..... |

I test drove a 123d coupe and was left underwhelmed. No noise and just didn't feel that quick to me. However, I'd imagine a remap really improves matters without sacrificing too much/if any mpg.
Are you keeping the Lexus for fun or will that go??? That may determin how many 'thrills' you need from your daily runner. I've always been really impressed by the mpg figures I've seen on the 135i - that would be my choice but depends how frugal you're needing it to be.

TBH I think many diesels struggle to get anywhere near their claimed mpg figures and BMs are some of the worst offenders.
I'm getting low 30s in my 335d although that's almost all rural road driving. My Astra (150bhp CDTi) averaged just about 40mpg - it's meant to be more like 50. I think "fun" and "great mpg" are hard/impossible to stick under one bonnet. Latest 330d would be my choice - seems to be the very best compromise of good mpg, low emissions but proper fun performance. 335d is obviously quicker but the mpg appears to be a lot worse. |

Unless there is something wrong with my 335d i've had no problem hitting 40mpg on every tank since i've had it.
I also had it up to 47mpg on a 200 mile round trip if i keep to 70mph. Once above 30 mph, the instant MPG is bang on 50mpg. So long journeys see good returns for me at least. Know you've had one before but then again, i was following Will in his 330d at the meet with you behind me in IS-F. I should have let you past, sorry... but them 330d's are v.quick, not much in it at all! So i reckon a good compromise and imo better interior than the 1. I'll let an owner give you real data but i looked at the 123d coupe's too. From what i gathered from owners, it can be as low as 42mpg but i think the avg is probably between 42 and 48mpg with 50mpg easily achievable on a run Last edited by briers; 09-22-2010 at 10:26 AM.. |

I currently have a 123d coupe and I ve averaged around 47 mpg for this year with a mixture of town / peak district and motorway driving. But I do drive conservatively most of the time. If you have a heavy right foot, I d say you will be looking at around 42 mpg.
MPG is not great on a motorway either, something to do with the 2nd turbo kicking in around 2000rpm (70 mph). 1st gear ain't great but it pulls well from 3rd / 4th / 5th. Prior to my 123d coupe, I had a 320d (163) and I much prefer the 123d to that, despite the 'low rent' interior |

My brother has an Alpine white 3 door hatch and its a great little car, even better now the RFTs are off it - remap takes it straight to 250BHP. Avergae mpg for him is mid 40's!

I had one of these on loan for a couple of days when I had my 335i and was very impressed - it's a nice car. However, today I would choose the Golf GTD over one - no particular reason other than I prefer the looks and the quality is better.
But neither are a suitable IS-F replacement - will this be an additional car? |

What you save in fuel over a year, say £4000, by switching from a 5 ltr V8 to a a taxi engined ugly mf of a car will be offset massively by your cost to change. So dont bother unless you need to save money on say montlhy payments.

No seriously i think Matt has the solution the GTI is fucking awesome mate and so reliable unless its has that dsg box . You wont get 40 plus mpg though Last edited by scooba0010; 09-22-2010 at 01:41 PM.. |
