what kind of friend sets you up with a car and didn't tell you all of his mods it would have been nice if you could have been a little more prepared with map selection etc....
otherwise you didn't stand a chance the way it was. Thats just like racing two stock
335i's and once you get there the other guy is like oh by the way I have a jb3.

I believe there is a term for that...

Oh yeah...Sandbagging.

OP needed to be in 2nd gear to make it a better run. Now he needs some more mods and rerun in 2nd gear.

Lol yes you are right that's what it is called.

Op I didn't know you started in 3rd @40mph that was your problem you should do a rematch and show him what's up start in 2nd @ 40 you'll be a lot closer if you don't win

3rd @ 40 is nutz! I ran a pullied cobra with catback we both had passangers and I was on map 7 with dci. I went 1 for 4 that night, but on that one win when I didn't get wheelspin, I put 1.5 cars on the cobra. He was in shock when I finally won one, but the moral of the story is a lot of people will sleep on us. It is your sworn duty to show them what's up

I raced with a S/C Cobra back when I had the JB2R. I know the guy definitely had an exhaust and I was side by side with him.

yea 3rd is nuts when your at 40 but im telling you it works with big turbo cars that take time to spool or there near redline so they spool up faster... there is a huge difference between a corbra with a catback and one that has full exhaust intake and a pulley boosting 15 psi vs stock 10-12 psi... next time we go out i will do 2nd gear and see how i make out..

Yeah...a good 50-60rwhp difference.

Stock they have 8lbs...pulley they will be 12-15 lbs. Anymore than 14 lbs on stock blower is pointless on those cars. Again, heat soak.

Get your extra goodies...2nd gear...make him drive around a lot...hit it a few times..(when you miss a gear or whatever ) Get him nice and heatsoaked...take a video...and celebrate!

I am familiar. I probably have owned more 03 04 Cobras than 99.9% of the population. My previous business was buying...modding...tuning..selling Terminators ...Z06...Camaro SS...WS6 Trans Am...GTO...shipping them World wide. We were the only ones you would click on E-bay and see a dyno video. Fresh dyno and video came with every car. We mainly focused on 03 04 Cobras though.

My past car (before the 335i) was a 1000hp 04 Cobra with a 91MM Hellion Hellraiser kit.

The Cobra is an interesting animal. When we dynoed them...they were very inconsistant with the dyno numbers. We would dyno comparable cars...same mods..or stock vs stock..same day ect. We would see up to a 60rwhp difference.

Some were freaks...some were turds. Although factory rated at 390 we would see anywhere from 360rwhp up to 420rwhp+ stock.

With a Cold Air Intake, Exhaust, Tune, Pulley ...they easily achieve 450-480 rwhp range. Port the stock blower...get over 500 rwhp. Limitation is the stock blower gets heat soaked pretty quickly.

Watch out for the ones with Kenne Bell, or Whipple Superchargers. Many in the 600-750 + range. Twin Turbos...600-1000+ rwhp.

I still say with how efficient the BMW puts down power. A domestic muscle car such as the GTO, Camaro, Trans Am, Mustangs...will need 40-50 more rwhp to me a match for the N54 powered cars. This is a theory I want to test.

I am a first time Euro owner. Love the 335i! I think we are just starting to see the potential of these motors. Warranties are running out...mods are going strong. I look forward to getting mine over the 500 rwp mark and in the 10's 1/4 mile.

PS: Here is my current set up and dyno run. Have Catless DP's...JB3 2.0...and Meth injection that are waiting install. The dyno video shows current mods and #'s.

Potentially due to shorter overall gearing?

I am not really sure. That may be one factor. Perhapes 50/50 weight ratio too....Perhaps getting better traction. Although 335i and 135i will spin with good mods. They still don't seem to spin like the American muscle cars do.

I have found this guess in rwhp from playing with a few domestic cars. I would like to get a couple cars and do real unbiased comparison on video.

Could be interesting.

I understand. The Superchargers are instant boost...no lag. However, heat soak can come on faster and you will more than likely lose some up top.

Big single turbos. Yeah. They have some lag. Mine would not start boosting hard until about 3500 rpm. lol That is not horrible for a 91MM though. I also had it running through manual transmission. Auto would have been better. I like to shift.

Twins however. Especially 57mm....they spoil up pretty good for the size. Not instant boost sensation like the N54...but faster than one would think on turbos that size.

There is lag...then....PULLS LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN! lol

Funny thing. When I first drove my 335i I thought the car was having problems. I could not FEEL the boost. It was so tame and flawless. Cars like the Terminator is like wrestling a wild boar when you drive it. Fun...yeah...and it will beat the shit out of you and wear you out.

The 335i is a whole new world. You have to watch the speedo because you don't feel like you are moving as fast as you are. The car is put together so well...again...flawless to drive.

Can't wait to get flawless to 500-600 rwhp range.
