Anyone here ride an old-school Harley? I'm hoping to get a Shovelhead soon, and I'm wanting to build a bobber. Suicide shift, drag bars, open primary, something akin to what the Japanese are doing. I like what they're doing with vintage Harleys.

Wow that Harley looks to be in great shape! Looks classic, while it is not my thing per se I hav to admit this bike looks very cool, Mike the Snake - congrats on your new ride!

Thanks very much!

Harleys have never been my thing either. I'm a Ducati guy, but I'm not riding fast on the street any more, and I wanted to build myself an old-school bobber, something to customize.

This bike is almost too nice to alter though.

At the least, I'm going with lowering the bike, adding drag bars, mid foot controls, and getting rid of the primary, making the clutch and primary belt open.

Edit: nevermind, got the measurements!

Super random question, but does anyone know the weight or inner length/width of the frame of a s1000rr? Need it for a project.

I'm down to just the Harley now.

Hit a patch of gravel in a turn today on the Ducati, went down hard. Broke a few bones (big toe, left ring finger, and a couple ribs), lots of road rash, lost my big toenail. Pretty messed up, but luckily still alive to type this.

I'll be wearing ALL my riding gear from now on. If I'd been wearing my boots and padded leather pants I would have probably walked away with just a few scratches.[/U]

One shoe flew off, and one glove came off, and I broke bones on those areas.

Gloves had short gauntlets, so I can advise getting gloves with long gauntlets.

Thanks very much. It's been 5 days now, I'm over the hump uf stiffness and pain. Big toe has finally stopped bleeding and swelling. I cut the toe areas out of my shoes which lets me actually walk fairly normally.
Today I actually felt a little better, more neutral now instead of hurting.

Got the Harley back from the shop (getting it dialed in from sitting for a long time), it's ready to go, so as soon as I feel good I'll be back on the road.

I ride a wide glide but a friend of mine has a hammer and I've ridden it a few times. It's a nice bike with some good power. He swears by victory's and would never ride a Harley. I am complete opposite...
Although the hammer is nice it doesn't have the power that mine has and it just had a completely different feel and the engine has a metallic sound to it.
FYI His hammer is stock with pipes and mine is stage 2 so I'm sure with an intake an tune he could make some power.

only reason i changed my mind on the HD is because of 4 videos i saw on youtube comparing them to Victories.

it was pretty scary stuff - even though it would be a dream to own a wide glide, i still can't forget the videos i saw.

there are 4 videos - here's the first

The motors in Victories are better in terms of tech, but, you arn't buying a bike of this type for tech are you....?

I can moan with the best of 'em about some of the annoying things wrong with HD's (the problems associated with the starter engagement action described in the first vid for example ) but, a Harley is a Harley, and it's something a Victory can never be, it doesn't matter how much better it maybe in many ways.

Plus the mod/customisation possibilites are almost limitless with a HD, and you can truely make them to be whatever you want them to be, which I guess is certainley one of the big attractions of them for many.
