Arrow Car and Driver Tests 2011 BMW 335i Manual Coupe and Sedan

Hey, Guys:

Check out our latest review of the N55:

2011 BMW 335i Coupe - Quick Test

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...upe-quick_test

(and previous 2011 335i sedan quick test : http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...dan-quick_test)

Not sure how to get this on the front page of bimmerpost.com

Nice write-up, pretty consistent with what's been reported lately.

Not sure why they act like the differences in times are worth nothing....it's more likely a difference in testing conditions and/or drivers.

Strange...if you read the review for the 2011 E90, it does 0-60 in 4.8 secs and is slightly heavier compared to the 2011 E92.

Edit: and it got better mileage. Must be a freak engine.

The sedan weighs 3,593 lbs vs. 3,560 lbs for the coupe. Your information is accurate, but I highly doubt that the difference came down to those 33 lbs. Driver/conditions/lunar alignment are way more likely causes.

That was an automatic tranny. The Auto is slightly quicker.

If it's a real difference it's interesting that there is a bit better performance up top for the N55... if the differences are real. That being said, who knows what the different test conditions actually were.

"For 2011, BMW’s sublime 335i coupe receives badly needed iDrive enhancements"

what are they referring to in this statement?

Great article but to whinge about the price for a 335i....seriously Australians pay $125,000AUD dollars for it which equates to $117,000 USD......this is on road. You guys have it so good.

Yeah Australia has it bad... price difference between a 135i and a 335i is $40K AUD.

The N55 definately sounds better than the N54. In the real world, they are pretty much equal in terms of performance, but you hear a nice turbo spool with the N55!

Damn....over $100k for a 3-series.

Seriously, is there any car that's affordable in Australia?

It comes down to supply and demand, we sell 20,000 per year where US sell 200,000 per year. Plus our taxes kill us, there are two taxes for luxury purchases over $57,000AUD.... There is roughly $100,000 tax on a 760Li.....

Well written review! Now let's see how much power modders can get out of that lonely turbo!

Funny you said that. I hear a better distinguished turbo spool on my 07 335i than my 135i /N55 equiped car. maybe It's still being broken in. mine only has 500 miles on it.

I feel you. The Netherlands are equally terrible in car-taxing... A full loaded E92 335i cost about 80.000 euros, which comes to about USD 100.000. Of which about USD 50.000 tax....

But on the other hand, i live next door to Autobahn-country

I understand that the price discrepancies between countries is outrageous, but why does every thread always gravitate toward that topic LOL?

N54 > N55

Joking... for all intents and purposes the N54 and N55 are the same engine...I think the guys in ///M wanted to divide and conquer us through this minute difference. The power delivery is give or take the same (except when the N54 is tuned, but with time that difference will be gone too).

Kind of interesting on the mpg numbers, the 2007 N54 was rated 19/29, and 29 > 28. Don't know if anybody ever saw the story behind the EPA, but what is it, they test less than 5% of all cars and let the mfgs provide the numbers to them? Kind of like UTQG tire numbers, pretty much use at your own risk and of no use to compare one brand to another.

Say my car was rated 29 highway in 2007. Just because BMW reports a different (lower) number to the EPA doesn't mean that somehow as soon as their report was completed and someone in Munich clicked submit on a web page, my mpgs went down. They didn't change at all, it's the same car.

We get so badly raped here in Australia when it comes to car prices. A second hand E36 325i in good condition is still worth about $10,000.

Brand new M3 here is like $187,000 on the road.

I can't wait to leave this fucked up country and go to the USA! They dick us for doing 3km/h (less than 2mph) over the speed limit too.

Where is the "new" second air feed (to the airbox) on the left coming from from?

Can someone with an '11 model chime in?
