Hi guys,
I'm new to the BMW family with my E90 335i.

I'd like to intall a boost gauge.
Haven't decided on what model i will get but was wondering if any guys have installed one yet?
And where to put it to keep a clean looking interior?
Also where did you tap off from?

I was think of tapping of the diverter valves lines, but maybe there is a line inside that I can tap off.

Yes, Blitz makes one as part of their Dual TT series. I have one in my other car, just hooked up as a gauge, just forget about the TT part.

I miss the boost gauge i had on my 89 944 turbo S. I really want to get one on my 335i. Its awesome seeing the boost as you accelerate.

How do you know if you have a boost leak then? I'm sure Porsche had rice in mind when they installed boost gauge on their cars from the factory.

Its not about rice and bling bling.
Its about having the information about the car.
The 335 should have not only come with a boost gauge, but also a water temp gauge.
I am so used to looking at the water temps gauge as a reference to when the car is hot enough to ge on it.But also an indication if the car is maybe getting to hot before overheating happens.
Maybe its just me but i dont like using just warning lights.

The factory cluster is nice and simple, but having boost and water temp would have been nicer. Even digital on the computer would have been nice.

In the 06 GTI there is an EGG to get the Information Display screen on the AC's temperature screen. Pretty nifty... My friend showed it too me. There is a sequence of settings you set the AC to so that you can access this "Diagnostic Mode". My same friend with a 540i had a way of accessing the Diagnostic Mode on his Critical Info screen on the cluster. He got it to read out real-speed, real-rpm, some battery thing, and maybe even oil temp. I'm pretty sure the car's ECU monitors all these things with sensors so someone should be able to read these. I dunno, just my .02$

I think something should enable the boost to readout on the factory clusters critical information screen (I'm just going out on a limb guessing that 335 has one...)

To me the oil temp is much more useful for deciding when to feel comfortable redlining your car. e46 M3's come with water temp, oil temp and the lights around the tach and pretty much all of us ignored the lights and water temp and waited for the oil temp to get up before pushing the car. And in fact the water temp gets all the way to running temp before the oil temp even starts to move since it takes about 2 minutes for the water to heat up but close to 10 minutes for the oil to get to 200-210.

I agree the oil temps is important too. Speacially on the track.
But since the oil temps take a long time to go up, speacially in winter.
When the water temp reaches operation temp it's the go light for me.
Giving me the heads up that i can start taking the revs a bit higher.

OK but back to the boost gauge.
Nobody installed one yet?

if the gauge was mounted on the A pillar from stock, then it would be a rice mobile. BMW should have it in the gauge cluster as a digital readout, or on the navi.

SO how do you know if you have a boost leak if you have no information about what you are boosting? How do you know if your boost selinoid or waist gate are not stuck open? With out the gauge, you do not know. Anyone that is looking to add more power needs one.

+1. I'd imagine that the 335i is a first turbo'd car for a lot of people here so they don't know much about the turbo yet. You would be suprised how a minor boost leak affects performance.
The easiest way to determine a boost leak is to look at a boost gauge to see if there is any abnormal drop, and if there is...time to run a boost leak test and find the culprit(s).

All the people who said that German engineering makes it OK not to have a boost gauge are wrong, it doesn't matter how well the car is made...a turbo'd car has a lot of pressure running through the wastegate, turbo tubes, bov, intercooler pipings, etc. and if there is a loose connection that allows air to prematurely get out, performance will suffer.

Well...yes...I recall my previous post. As a BMW fun i never tried another turbo car .all my previous cars was BMWs.

I have owned many turbo cars, 98 Supra TT, WRX, STi, and all of them got an aftermarket boost gauge, and EGT sensor in the downpipe. With the Supra, on stock twins I used to run 19 PSI all the time, and pop IC pipes off. The gauge was a real help. As a matter of fact, I loved teh supra I6 so much, it was half the reason I bought this 335.

Question : How can you fit a boost gauge inside the fine 335 interior without ruining it?

I ran 1.4 bar on my 944 turbo S with the Autothority chip andd banjo bolt (relief vlv). Stock the car was .7 bar or 8.5 psi. you need the gaauge to tell you if the upgrade your getting is what was promised. Shiv is stating only 10-11 psi on the stage 0 - wish it was more. You will be able to verify the boost and when it is applied. I wish we could then provide feedback to Shiv to make map changes for our personal tastes.
