You don't want to high pass your underseats at 85hz unless you have a trunk sub.

If anyone wants a cheap and easy way to add a tweeter to the center channel have a look at the for sale section I have a vibe slick 4" coaxial for sale with the oem harness.

I added the center tweeter but I don't think I hear a difference? I'll take the speaker out and check it this weekend.

You should definetly hear a difference. To me I could tell the treble wasn't all coming from my left side.

I put in an amp for my underseat speakers and used the high pass filter built in at 65 hz and it literally took all low end out of the system Sounded WAY worse than stock Logic 7. The only way I could get it to sound better was to set it to All pass and carefully adjust the gain to where I thought it gave it a little more punch but not full blast capability of the amp. The OP's statement about over excursion has be a little worried though. Any advice about my choice. Will this setting eventually end up blowing my subs and forcing me to replace them?

If I set it back to the 65 Hz high pass, I consider it a way to spend $200 to make your L7 system sound MUCH worse!

And no I'm not a basshead, I just wanted what the OP described, a little more umph in the midbass.

The signal from the underseats already has a subsonic filter around 35-40hz.

If you have it crossed over at 65 hz and the midbass is not improved then something is wrong. Are you sure you're using a highpass and not a low pass?

Why would you have your high pass set to 65hz unless you have a trunk sub.

I bought this amp,

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R125....html?tp=35757

which shouldnt over drive the underseats too badly, and it has limited modes it can operate in. It either has a "HP 65 hz", "AP", and "LP" modes and I am sure I have been switching between HP and AP modes.

Currently I have it set to AP and just tuned the "punch bass" knob to just over half way up. The EE in me is also puzzled as to why this totally took out the midbass of the system...

Do you have a recommendation for the mode switch on it? Thanks Kaigoss!

It is my understanding that the underseat midbasses don't handle frequencies lower than 50 hz to well and damage insues. Ideally yes you'd want them to drive the full lower range IF they could handle it.

OOPS, I didn't read so good, its a HP at 80hz! DOH. Is this to high and will take out all my content at the bottom?

Yeah that's one problem. The bigger one though is the fact that you are replacing 70 wpc of OEM power with 40 wpc of aftermarket power. This can't work!

Since you bought at Crutchfield, box it up, return it and buy a decent amp with at least 100 wpc at 4 ohm and a variable hpf.

Btw, are you using an LOC before the amp?

I have my stock underseats high passed at 35hz @24db an octave powered by my xd600/6 they can definitely take a little extra power without raising the high pass filter. I'm planning on giving them some more power once I put my trunk sub back in and I have them playing only midbass.

Hmm ok, I had asked Technic if that amp would be sufficient or to much and he told me that it would be a little too much even and to watch my volume. Maybe I mis understood him.

I assume you mean 100 wpc RMS at 4 ohms?

And yes I am using an LOC before the amp. It is the LOC that Technic includes with his harness.

Do you have a recommendation on an amp with those specs?

Thanks!

Others have used Rockford P300-2 with reportedly good results. That's 75 wpc at 4 ohm but I'm sure it is a bit underrated as well. I'm sure there are many other good choices for under $200 out there (if you're on a budget). You may also want to consider a Kenwood Xr-4S which is a 4 channel amp but you can get it for under 200 refurbished. You could use 2 channels and it would be plenty of power and you would be set if you wanted to upgrade your system in the future. I used to run that amp and it it is great!

I acquired a hifi tweeter from a friend of mine, was wondering would this do me any good on my Logic 7 system if I were to add it to the front center?

Actually, you asked for this particular budget amp and I stated that it should work although it only has 80W max/40W RMS per channel compared with the 70W max of the Logic7 OEM amp. So power output-wise it was going to be a wash...

However, you should get a little more bass than OEM just because this RF amp has an adjustable bass boost feature at 45Hz. Because the OEM amp already has the woofer outputs filtered then you should have set this RF amp to crossover AP and adjusted only the bass boost to begin with -which you ultimately did.

Guess I'll just give it a go and see how it sounds.

Adding that front tweeter was definitely a huge improvement. Definitely recommended.

I ended up just using epoxy and putting the tweeter in the corner of the space. Vocals were vastly improved and there's an all around added crispness to the sound.

I used part #65139217912. Since that part # brought up a lot of results, I chose the tweeter that was technically for a 2012 128i.

i mounted mine with a dynamat because i dont have any skills to mount it any better.

my doors are already dynamatted too so i couldnt tell too much of a difference, but I can definitely tell the staging has improved and everything got much crispier. highly recommended mod.

This.

Nobody has mentioned how well their defroster works now that one of the vents is plugged up with a tweeter.

Anyone?
