My E46 only does 4.8 to 60... Only 0.6 quicker than the F30 330d, bloody well wastes it to 100 though. 11.2 vs 14.2...
Ok, I'll give you that one DXB.

Obviously something wrong with the M3 given the way it struggled to drop a diesel family saloon. How embarrassing. Another 200 bhp needed there before honour is restored.....

The thing in with the S3 and and the likes, with the 4WD and the DSG boxes some amazing 0-60mph times are being achieved but after that the sheer power of the sports car makes all the difference.

Progressively after 60MPH the S3 will fade off from something with more power.

People assume that the differences are huge, but visually they are a lot smaller than people would imagine.

However a car 2 seconds faster to 100MPH will feel much faster inside the car and equate to 7-8MPH faster when it reaches 100MPH from a standing start.

Have a blast down a quarter mile and see how difficult, when in the same conditions, it is to gain a tenth or two of a second.

Think about car racing where after 2.5miles of racing 0.5sec is seen as a huge margin.

Margins feel bigger inside and the slower driver no matter how close he thinks he might be will never make that gap up.

Pulling 0.3 tenths ahead after just a short burst of acceleration soon starts adding up around a track or when having a proper blast.

The M3 was 3 up (2 x extra passengers could easily be 150kg) and the diesel 1... Also easy to go quickly in the diesel ( foot down and instantaneous wave of torque) . M3 Driver has not dropped that extra gear that it needed to hence why it didn't pull away right away.. But once shifted starts to pull hard, it would have pull hard right way had the driver been at 5.5-6k rather than much lower which is obvious to see...

The M3 is much MUCH quicker, 3 seconds to 100mph is not represented in that video at all.

Look at this drag run.

At the 1/4mile mark was only 0.5 sec and 4mph between them.. Doesn't sound a lot but the gap is HUGE.

To put it into contest also, the E46 M3 driven properly is as quick or quicker than the winning car (remapped 335d) in this video and the F30 330d is quite considerably slower than the loosing car in this video (E92 335i stock)

Still think it illustrates the M3 to be marginally less slow than a 330d......

A couple of turbos on the M3 and say, 800 bhp should make it a little more interesting.....

I really Don't know what your talking about or where your going..

One has 258HP the other 338+HP.

One is a fast car, one is quite a quick car. But 3 seconds to 100 is massive, just think about how massive the gap would be to 140+

Depends on your definition of fast dbx. Give me a car that will go from standstill to 150 mph in sub 11 seconds and we will agree that it is fast. An M3 is not fast.

I am merely using my GSXR1000 as a yardstick as I consider that to be fast. It drops M3s in the 'now you see me, now you don't' manner.

Why on earth are you comparing bike with cars??

A Veyron can do 0-150 in circa 10.5-11 secs buts that's a million quid mate,

Your making pointless comparisons.

Lots of people own fast bikes, they don't start mocking cars though.....

An M3 is a quick car, a 330d is a quick car, a Ferrari 458 & 599 are super quick cars.. All slower than a litre bike.. But what the fuck has that got to do with it.

A 800HP GT-R pulls away from GSXR1300 in a straight line, but I'm not one for comparing cars with bikes.

Most people on here will never afford a car that can do 0-150 in 11 secs, even modified cars (shit boxes tuned) would cost massive amours to produce that performance.

So I'll stand by what I've said. An M3 is a fast car, anything sub 10 secs to 100mph is a really fast car!!

You make my point dx. It depends on your point of reference. A nine year old M3 has a similar cross country performance to a modern hot hatchback. E46 bridge to gantry is 8.22, the Megane RS26 runs 8.17. Neither is fast if you compare their times to a Zonda clubsport at 7.24.

If you are happy with your M3s performance that's great. Personally I need more to get my kicks.

The R26R has track tyres on it. Couple the fact the M3 time was done in December says the M3 is quicker! Compare the like for like CSL and that's in the 7:50 bracket...

Let's not forget the R26R ain't no ordinary "hatchback" it's a car thats as quick as a 1M and quicker than an Exige S & Cayman S around the ring also... It's not bloody Astra VXR or Focus RS is it. It's a Stripped out track tool.

"Personally you need more kicks"

You make out your a god...

Of course a bike is more exhilarating. Not all of us can afford a car & bike.

Personally I only get a kick out of racing. Still enjoy my slow road car though.

For the record the 1M is quicker than the RS26R at 8.15.

Don't remember making out I'm a god. Merely that having had M3s in the past, whilst excellent cars, I never found them fast enough to keep me interested. Therefore spend my money on modest family saloons and get the kicks from a Radical and GSXR1000.
